Default why is my jk acting like a POS?

ok well after the last wheelin trip last week i ripped the evap canister off. on the way home it started bucking and jerking and had no power. we pulled over and restarted the jeep and it was fine. it did it one more time on the way home and i pushed the clutch in and restarted and it was fine. the next day i drove about 45 min. away for our jeep club meet and great and it was fine, but it wouldn t rev over 3500 rpm. so i figured it was the evap canister because it was a open vacuum leak. well it sat all this week till tonight. i pulled it in work and put 5 new wheels on it. pulled it out, and went to pick my wife up from work. was fine but still wouldn t open up. then it started the bucking jerking thing again, so i put the clutch in and restarted it. but it wouldn t start. so pulled over and started and got her and it did it about 20 more times on the way home. so i put the evap can on (brand new) and didn t help, so i started looking around and i wiggled the CIA and i stalled. so i put the factory one back on and it is much better but i still can t open it up more than 3000 rpms and i dies. it also won t idle for more than 5 minutes. NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WHAT SO EVER!!!! i can t figure it out. here is what i am afraid of....

there was a little water drops (dirty water) in the intake tube and throttle body. the oil is clean. if i did damage to the engine wouldn t it have happened to the right away? or even a little down the road? why a week later? help this thing is only 2 months old and 2100 miles on it. what do i do? i am really afraid the dealer will tell me to go sit and rotate. espacially since i bought the evap can and replaced it myself. it goes in on the 24th to have the clutch looked at for the second time because of the throwout bearing squeling.

To me, that sounds like a computer problem. Im just guessing, but I think not having the evap on for awhile confused the hell out of the computer. Did you try to pull codes? Did you try disconnecting the battery for awhile after you replaced the evap? I doubt the water caused any problems, slighty dirty or not , water droplets will not hurt your motor. Its the big sudden gulps that break stuff.

and I think your nuts for hittin that hole without a snorkel! Great pic though!

ok i disconnected the battery. i ll let it disconnected over night. i still don t understand why i didn t set a check engine light. and it really worries me about the dealer. i can turn wrenches but when it comes to this electronic shit i am clueless. my dad has been a mechanic for 25 years and just recently gave it up, he said he couldn t stand the computer stuff.

hopefully it fixes it. i just hope the dealer can at least figure out what is wrong, i m not even worried about the warranty i just want my jeep back to normal, no squel, not running like crap. really started to second guess this $30000 purchase. i hope they can get it fixed.

You should only have to have it disconnected for about 15 minutes or so. I hope it works for you. The more I think about it, the more I think the computer lost its mind. And I wouldnt worry about the dealer giving you any shit about replacing the evap yourself. Work does not have to be done by them, I think it says that right in the warranty. But if you do take it in and they find it is related to ripping the evap off, you are gonna have to pay the bill. Good luck man!

like i said i m not worried about the dealer really, they are pretty good. i just dropped $500 with them in accesories, would have been $1000 but they couldn t get the wheels.

i ll go back out and try it. see if it is better.

ok it is better but not right. now i can open it up to about 4000 rpms. and does run much better though. but after 4000 rpms it falls on its face and i mean bad! i tried to pull codes and nothing. i thought maybe it would register a misfire code but it didn t. but the way it is acting that is what it feels like. now here is the kicker..... why can i push the clutch in a rev it up to about 6200 where the rev limiter kicks in and it doesn t miss or anything? maybe the clutch is slipping? wouldn t it still rev and not act like it is missing? would the clutch squel have anything to do with it? or does it have to do with being under load? i can only open it up in 1st and 2nd because the roads around my house aren t long enough. i guess i ll have to wash it up good one more time and take it to the dealer this monday instead of next monday. i gotta figure out what i am driving

I understand how you feel and don't take this the wrong way but I always like to keep something in mind.

Race cars break. Heck professional racing teams that get paid good money to build a multi-million dollar racing machine sometimes can't get it to last 500 miles without breaking.

Jeeps break. It's just a machine and as durable and rugged as the Jeep is, when you get it out there in the countryside and start romping over rocks and through mud bogs you are apt to push the machine past its limits. Given that the evap canister got ripped off, it sounds to me like the software issue kicked in and started causing your problems. This is what happens when you wheel.

Personally I'm not putting my Jeep on anything rougher then a light trail until I have full skid plates under there.
