Default Why is my traction control light coming on?

I have a 2014 JKUR with a 3" lift. Every once in a while while cruising on the freeway at 70+ mph the traction control light (orange light pic of vehicle with squiggly lines under it) will come on and it disengages the cruise control. It happens on dry pavement, sometimes when I'm just driving along and sometimes when changing lanes. It doesn't happen often but when it does I can't use the cruise control until I shut off the engine and then restart, then the light will go out and cruise will work again. Why does this happen and is it something that needs to be fixed or is it just something that happens once in a while with nothing that I can do to stop it? Is there a way to shut this light off without shutting off the eng?

When I first put the lift kit in my Jeep I had this issue. If I am correct, I had a front end alignment and that corrected it. The issue happened to me at slow speed when I would try to turn at a corner stop or something. Then the traction control would try and keep me going straight.

If your steering wheel is indeed straight, maybe clockspring related? Something in the system seems to be thinking the steering wheel is off would be my guess. I would note that I have no experience with clockspring related issue as many on here do, so I'm only thinking out loud on this particular subject. I hate going to dealers, but if still covered under warranty this might be something I had them look at prior to the warranty expiring.

If the light is just coming on and not flashing, then you can get it read by an ABS code reader as it would have been stored in the ABS log.

Mine was doing something similar, the light would come on and I couldn't use cruise. I got the code read and it gave a bad front right wheel speed sensor error.

I purchased a new sensor for about $20 but I ended up just washing the Jeep and wiggling the wire. The code never really came back after that.

Unrelated I found out shortly after that my ball joints were shot, so when the shop changed them out that sensor would have had to have been removed and probably whatever debris was in there got cleaned out.

When in 4lo, the light should come on that indicates the traction control is off. That is automatic. 4lo = no traction control.
