Default Why wont an 07 Freedom top fit an 09?

I have read several peoples comments on the fact that 07 and 08 hard tops will not fit the newer JK's. BUt when I check with the dealer or aftermarket companies, its the same part number for all years. I have an apportunity to buy a Frredom top from an 07 locally, but I am trying to figure out what is different, and if its just something that will need a small modification, or just isnt going to work.

Any help would be great.

Thanks,
Kevin

it is my understanding that the physical hard top is the same but the gaskets are different and one latch location has been moved. the body of the jeep did not change but the other modification were to reduce water leaks

The only change I'm aware of is the location of the latch in the middle of the windshield... it moved slightly toward the drivers side in the 09's. Might be something that you can work around. If it's local I'd see if the owner would let you test fit it before buying it. It would only take a few minutes to set it in place and see if it'll fit, see if you can work out a way to latch the front panels. If not, you just take it back off and continue looking.

Good luck.

An 07 top will fit on an 09 but will not function like the 09 tops.

The 07 did not have the front latch that attaches to the footman's loop on the windshield. The body of the 09 has this mounted off center to receive the new latch.

FWIW I've owned both. They both leak. Neither design is better than the other.

i have an 09 unlimitted and bought a used hard top off an 08, fits perfectly. Don't know if that helps with the '07 hardtop debate, thought I'd give you my experience.

Mine doesn't leak either. Given all the comments about earlier leaks, I'd pass on the earlier model and get the one designed for your Jeep.
