Default Will it fit?

Hey guys, quick question.

Looking at the next set of tires I want to put on my JK after I burn down the stockers that the factory put on it.

Looking at getting the Cooper Discoverer STT tires. Was wondering with all things being stock (rims, lift etc) if a 285x70R17 would fit on my Jeep without any rubbing issues and whatnot.

Trying to give my Jeep a slightly larger tire and more aggressive look (and of course some better offroad ability) without having to sink a large sum of money into it. (Jeep is new and I'd rather spend the money I would save on upgrades towards paying off the Jeep faster)

Thanks in advance!

I have that size, it does rub lock to lock but just barly.
Sure in full flex it may even lock a tire.
1" spacer would be perfect to make that size fit perfect on stock rims.

what do you mean "lock to lock"

I dont plan on going to full flex...offroad to me means going out on trails where there is the occaisional rut or bump or puddle or soft muddy track...by no means anything close to extreme.

I'm fearful of putting spacers on for the fact that tire places like Discount Tire Co. Wont touch your vehicle if you have spacers on. And of course the horror stories of damaging your vehicle...

There's always the 265x70R17 tire size...I get a tiny bit more width out of that size...but at a loss of overall diameter...

So...that tire size should be alright as long as I'm mindful of the fact that there may be some slight rubbing at full turn. (basically, dont turn the wheel until it locks?

Thank yall very much. And to anyone else reading who may have some input, please add, I'd like to hear everyone's experiences (especially those who have used this tire size on the 17 inch stock rims and can add anything to that)

Thanks guys who responded above.

I was just wondering the very same thing. I'm pulling the trigger on ordering some 285/70r17 duratracs and hope to put them on stock rubi rims.

Is the rubbing gonna cause any damage to the tires etc? What are they rubbing on?

Thanks

Yeah It's worrysome, Its like...they should fit and be fine...but that big "IF" is there...

I have the stock 17inch rims that came with my Jeep. I dont know how they differ from the Rubicon rims, but damn I wish the stock rims had like one more inch of backspacing lol!

If I end up getting new wheels with enough backspacing (4.5" what I'm hearing), I will probably go with the 33x12.50R17 in the Cooper Discoverer STT tires I want. But at the moment, I'd rather put that extra money towards paying off the Jeep faster instead of upgrading it to those tires/wheels (even though that is a goal of mine)

So I figured until then, I'd use my stock rims until the above change and just get the next best size which is the 285x70R17

Well I think I know my course of action. Save up my pennies and nickels and dimes for a new set of wheels so i can just go ahead and slip those 33x12.50R17 on there.

Ive looked around at some wheels for a lil while now...any recommendations on rims that are dark colored, no more than $200 a wheel and will sufficiently run the size tire I want with enough backspacing and all that jazz? Any brands to stay away from? I will probably buy locally to save on shipping costs, but at least I can be as informed as possible.

The "Show your 33's" thread? Ive read through it.

Theres so many pages and variations with different tires and spacers and rims and lifts that its hard to get a definite answer.

I'd just hate to spend a lot of money to find out i've made a big error.
