I had exactly the same problem. Bought an ‘09 with one key. Long story but dealer could not program a new key. I got J-scan and programmed them myself for 1/10 what the dealer wanted $$$. If you search here on the forums you’ll find my thread and further comments.

I tried the hide a key trick and it did not work on my Jeep.

J-scan is what you need!

Sorry, just saw this thread was resurrected from way back. I think you need one working key to use J-scan to make more. If you have one you are good to go. If you have none it is dealer time as far as I know.

I can have a locksmith make a new key for me, will that allow me to turn the ignition on to be able to see the pin and program the key? Or does the key I’m using have to be pre programmed before hand i.e. the one I lost.. I’m open to any suggestions. Thanks!
You can get a dealership to cut you a new key and then program it yourself with appcar. I did this for my brother's 2015 jku. You may be able to do it with jscan as well but I am not that familiar with it yet. Dealer charged $120 for a cut key and wanted another 100 to program it.
