Just to set the record straight, I'm not claiming they're GOOD - just that I don't have to pay for my windshield when some rock inevitably destroys it.

Last fall I had a windshield replaced with no deductible, but there is a catch. The person on the phone will ask you about the size of the damage, if it is the size of a quarter, they will send someone to fix the damage. It happened to me, I had that size damage and like magic, over night a crack developed.
They replace the whole windshield.

I had a windshield crack in my old Bronco and the insurance company wanted $100 to replace it (my deductable), luckily my brother-in-law replaced windshields for a living, he got it and installed it for $50.
I got $0 deductable on windshields when i got my Jeep insurance, same company (State Farm), because my brother-in-law got a new job ... lol
I'm not sure how much extra it was from $100 deductable to $0 but i know i'll prob. use it a few times.

I had a rock hit in the exact same spot. I called around and finally got mine fixed for around $220. It was a local shop.

By the grace of a truck on 95 I got a cracked windshield. Had it replaced while in PA at Diamond Auto Glass. Got me OEM Windshiled but now its missing the etched glass with ID number. Who knows if that is a big deal or not. Don't really see the point in the etched glass anyway. But the glass was $496. Only paid my $100 to State Farm. Oh and they didn't put my inspection sticker back on because they said they could not replace an out of state sticker because its against the law. When I took it back to them in VA to get the sticker back on they said they could not do it because the glass was all cracked on the old piece they gave me. Now what the heck am I supposed to do. Guess its back to the dealership to get a new one. Haaa watch me send the bill to State Farm.

Overall good install job though on the glass. They had to remove the plastic on the interior around the windshield to replace it. Looks like I will be fixing some new noises from the plastic

Depends on the insurance company. State Farm recently changed from doing that to never fixing them, just replacing them.

Also, depending on where you live and how quick you go throug windshields, it can be WELL worth the money to go with a $0 dedcutible on your comprehensive (which covers windshields). I carry $0 on on my vehicles and once calculated that if I had a windshield replaced once overy 2.5 yrs (there abouts), it paid for itself. I tend to go through them about every 12-18 months. Just had a windshield replaced on a Class A motorhome... now those are expensive ~$800 to $1200 per side (it's a split windshield). $0 deductible comprehensive and you pay nothing.
