Well this was a different tech with 13 years of experience. LOL!

I am just not convinced that this is "as good as it gets" for a windshield replacement. I'm going to stop by my body shop again tonight and show him and see what he thinks.

I dunno, I know I'm picky, but hell this shouldn't be rocket science to get a freaking windshield installed right!

Not sure if that piece is compatible with my dash as it's a totally different design on the new ones. I am taking it in to the dealer tomorrow for a recurring no-start issue and an oil change. I can maybe check with the parts department. If that piece fits, maybe I'll just get that, stick it on there and be done with it. I'm compelled though to get another opinion. I'm particular with my vehicles. I just wish Chrysler would have retained the previous designed windshield from the TJs with the rubber gasket. Surely those are much easier to install.

If I couldn't see it, I really wouldn't care what it looks like underneath there. But I can see it, and I know it's there. Just used my iPhone to take pics; on a better camera I could probably show it better.

This is a tough call on what to do. The Safelite installs have not been good. The second one was better, but still doesn't look like it should. You have a new jeep that you paid a lot of money for. The original install didn't look like shit and I wouldn't expect the replacement to look like shit either. A lot of JK windshields have been replaced and others don't seem to have these problems. It's your Jeep and you will not be happy until it's fixed right, especially when you have to look at it every time you drive it. Good luck man, I hope you can get this resolved.

Thanks for your input. I hate to be so particular about things, but if I was doing a service for someone and they weren't satisfied with what I did, I would want to do everything within my power to make it right for the customer until they were completely satisfied. In Safelite's defense, they did try and make this right. Yes, from the exterior the install is much better but I am not happy with the way it looks inside. I mean, come on - the guy had to know that I would notice that. If he knows that I noticed a small spec in the glass, I'm going to notice epoxy that is all sloppy looking on the inside!

I can see it, and it is going to make me irritated every time I look at it until it is fixed to my satisfaction.

Another option.. maybe you can buy some house door weather stripping that's the right width and lay it in that channel on top of the goop. Just a thought.

While normally I'd be all about finding an easy solution like that, I'm going to take these guys to task on it.

My Jeep is at the dealer right now. I showed it to the foreman in the shop - even he commented that it looked like sh*t. The one service writer says that Safelite does their windshield installs and he said they haven't had any issues -- but they use a different Safelite shop than the one I used.

I looked at the rubber channel piece at the dealership today for the 2011+ models. I'm 99% sure it will fit on mine--it is a flexible piece with what I believe is just an adhesive backing that sticks to the underside of the dash. Only problem is, it won't extend far enough to cover the goop - it will just cover the opening between the dash and the sheet metal frame of the windshield. The goop will still be visible.

Called the manager at the Safelite shop. He didn't sound too happy to hear from me. I was nice and complimented his tech on the install -- from the outside. He cut corners, I know he had to. It's obvious he didn't remove all of the epoxy from the first install. He told me to bring it by and they could take a look at it. At this point, I'm not letting them touch it again. I'll probably be going to my body shop (which is one of the most expensive shops in Pittsburgh) to get a full quote on redoing the entire windshield frame and installing new glass -- and then Safelite can front the bill.

Is it whisteling at all? There was a TSB that stated that the gap is not to exceed 1 mm and it looks like yours might. I've had mine replaced twice by the sam guy and it looks much better than the job you received.

Yup, it does whistle too. Noticed that as well. Forgot to add that to the list. The gap is probably 3/4". Do you happen to know the TSB#?

Is this it? If so this wouldn't apply (unfortunately)
