Default Wrong antifreeze

I was on vacation back in May and my low coolant light came on. I stopped into the nearest auto parts store and picked up some antifreeze. Little did I know the guy behind the counter didn't know what he was talking about and sold me the wrong antifreeze. He sold me a jug of DexCool 50/50. I topped it off and went on my way. I usually would have done my own research, but like I said I was on vacation and just wanted to get back on the road.

The other day I came across a thread on this forum that said that the JK takes a special kind of antifreeze. HOAT.

I want to know if I drain the old fluid out and flush the system with water an then refill it with the HOAT antifreeze. Will I be ok or is the damage already done?

how much dexcool did you put in? and for how long was it in there? (Edit: I now see you said May)
If it was only around a quart or so then no big deal. But get the old stuff out and the right stuff in.

'07-12 take HOAT (Mopar HOAT or Zerex G-05)

It's been in there since Memorial Day weekend. Not even half a jug. Just enough to take the reservoir from just below minimum to halfway between min and max.

Then there's no real harm but you decrease the effectiveness of the HOAT. Easy to fix, just make sure whoever flushed it uses the HOAT.

Note that starting last year Chrysler changed to a newly formulated OAT. So don't trust the dealer to give you the right stuff, either.

You are pretty much due for your 5-yr change anyway.

Some of the extended antifreezes when combined with conventional can gel when mixed.

The correct antifreeze is Mopar part number 68048953AB. It is a dark pink color. I hope this helps.

Bad idea. One size fits none....

I get the right stuff at pep boys for $18 undiluted gallon size.

Zerex G-05 HOAT

Cheap enough to do it right.

In a pinch, just add distilled water. Then the undiluted stuff later.
