That must have jumped with the change to the 3.6L. In 2013 when I bought mine, it was either $495 or $595....can't recall which. In hindsight....all wasted money considering where I am now. LOL. Who knew at the time.....I didn't intended to head down the path I did.

You can request a build sheet directly from Jeep on their website by supplying your VIN number. It will tell you there what gears your Jeep left the factory with.

It just sucks because I never would've bought it with 3:21's. I don't know if the factory just botched the sticker or what, but I know I paid for the 3:73 upgrade. I didn't drive it much until after I started the upgrades because it was my wife's DD, but it's always felt underpowered. As far as the new gears, it's my DD now, so I can't really go down to 5:13's. I wanted 4:88's, but I was worried they would be too low as well for highway use. 4:56 seemed like a good compromise. I don't really do much off-roading, usually at the beach once a year and maybe some snow in the winter. The right of way to my property gets pretty rough sometimes too. I might do more now, though. Anyway, I'll be picking it up today, and I can't wait to see the difference!
I have 4.88 in my '08 with 35's. It's the perfect highway gear. I would have considered 5.13 but opted for 4.88 and it was the perfect match with the auto.

Normally, the non-Rubicon 42RLE transmission only came with 3.73 gears. Yours is the first I have heard of that came with 3.21 gears.

Interesting...the plot thickens. I put in a request for a build sheet from jeep.com, so that should be interesting. 4wp finished the install today, but they didn't have time to do the break-in procedure, so I guess ill be picking up tomorrow.

yup they increased over time but the early ones were much cheaper. My 16 rubicon was 695 to get 4.10's my 14 was 495 crazy.

Well, I can't say the OP's is the only one I've heard of, now.
I was around back then, and 3.21 with the auto was not a possible combination one could order. It was based on the 42RLE being very poorly geared for 3.21 axles.

Have your friends actually checked to make sure they have 3.21 axles? It would seem their JKs would be almost un-driveable.

Never heard of any 3.8 auto up here with 3.21 only the 6spd.
I think folks only believe they have 3.21 because the 2012 and up have them with the auto.

3.21 on an auto would never get into OD unless you are doing 80mph on the flats and then it would take you a day to get there.
