X model offroad capabilities
I have 2 door 6 speed the X model with the 24s package.
My reason for asking is because i'm becoming more interested in taking it off road some this summer.
I know there's a huge difference between the X model and the Rubicon, so what's the cutof for the X?

I don't think anyone can tell you exactly what your X will be capable of, the best way to find out is to get out there and try some trails. I've run quite a few with my stock X but found out pretty quickly that I needed some new tires and my winch so with those two additions I've been able to tackle everything I've tried thus far.
The X model is surprisingly capable off road. I've taken mine into a few places that I thought it had no chance of making it out of, and she crawled right out. I'd definitely get new tires, the street tires are junk. If you have the limited slip in the rear with 4-lo, you should be able to get yourself into some trouble.... It'll be fun. The Rubicon is hands down the king of stock off roaders. Lockers front and rear, sway bar disconnects, a creepy crawl transfer case, and 32"mud terrains stock is pretty impressive. My advice, take yours out and just try and see where it can go. I wouldn't attempt some vertical rockclimbs, but challenge yourself and your Jeep within reason. Make sure you have a buddy with you so when you do find your limitations, someone's there to help you get unstuck.
just take it out there and have fun, you'll know when you're out there. we're still stock and have pushed bob (yes, that's his name) and he's done us proud
bob is most proud of climbing up a hill of rocks with his street tires
The wrangler is the most capable off road vehicle out of the box. i've seen stock wranglers go crazy places. The JK has alot of electronic stuff like tcs, etc that make it work really well.
The big dogs will say you have to have a monster lift, moster tires, and front and rear lockers.
i would start wtih a moderate trail with an expericence off roader, then go from there.
I could't believe the stuff my stock sahara would do, now, however, i fear no rock!!!
go have fun, that's what you bought if for, but beware if you get the "jeep fever" it'll cost you.

As mentioned, you'd be surprised what you can do in a stock X. With a somewhat experienced companion to spot you and a buddy to tug you out when you get stuck, you could tackle some pretty decent trails. I did last chance canyon in my Sahara (exact same off-road capability as an X) when it was bone and had a blast! Here are a couple of pics to whet your appetite...

The biggest thing to watch out for in a bone stock x are your side rockers, if you are gonna do any rock crawling. They are vulnerable if unprotected and smacking them on a rock could do some decent bofy damage.
If your giong to do rocks, yes, yes, yes, rocker gards are really, really, really important.

3.21, 3.73? Just curious as I have yet to get mine dirty too and am running 3.21. Thanks!
