Default Is your JK Tranny noisy also???

So after I bought my JK last Tuesday, I noticed it was a little noisy shifting gears but I thought it's because the Jeep is brand new...well last Sunday I went off roading on a trail. I had some issues with 4L gear at the trail. I guess I didn't know how to use it so I had it on 3rd gear the whole time and clutched most of the way. Obviously I didn't know what I was doing. I smelled a lot of burning smell. Now, everytime I shift, it's more noisy and also, sometimes when I shift, especially from 2nd gear, it pops out like it didn't want to stay in there. It's worse when my RPM is higher, like after 3000rpm. Is this normal??? My Jeep now has 1100 miles on it...I'm just a little worried. Anyone has idea?? This is the same thing that happened with my Integra after I dropped a brand new tranny. Maybe because it's a new tranny?? Please advice. Thank you

mine is a bit noisy.. but then again I am used to shorter throw shifters and 5 speed trannys.

I have noticed the popping out of gear when shifting from 3rd to 4th like you said.

I think it is just the way the Jeep's weight is when the gas pedal is let up. Again, I have never driven anything with as much weight shift when shifting gears.. So I would think this would be normal.

If you are really worried about it, I would take it to the dealer to have them check it out.

Props for not being afraid to tear up a new vehicle.

Your JK shouldn't pop out of gear for any reason.

The 6-speed in these are loud, clunky, and sloppy. Just the way they are. If you're smelling the clutch burning then run it through an auto car wash (one that washes the undercarriage) and take it to the dealer. It should not be slipping.

The owners manual explains what 4lo is for.

My tranny is not especially noisy, and it certainly does not generate smells. It is somewhat sloppy, but it's my understanding that's the nature of the beast. If I suffered the problems you're describing, I'd get my JK down to the dealer and have it checked out.

When i first got my JK, it reaked really bad, like burning plastic rubber, etc.

All normal, things are working in, plus they have a coating on the engine to make it look pretty and protect it. The smell went away after about a month but sometimes i still smell it a bit if I get it really wet.

When i first go my JK if i revved it high in 1st to 2nd it would grind but now after 5000km it seems alot more solid...

hope that helps.. and yes its sloppy as hell..

Yup yup. thats what I mean, sloppy...
I did take it to the dealer just now. The guy test drove it. He said it seems a bit stiff but he said to drive it for a bit longer. I told him I was taking a trip down to Florida so after I came back I'd have around 4-5k miles on it. He said that's perfect. He'll take a look at it again then. Also, he did say that he noticed the 3rd gear was a bit different than all the other. That was the gear I was on the trail most of the time. Like I said, I clutched most of the time and left it in 3rd...
LOL i wonder if the clutch is glazed

I had a similar issue while driving, my gears wouls pop out!!
Went to dealer and they found problem.
The service advisor said it was (I'm paraphrasing here so bear with me) ...said it had to do with the shifter boot.
Anywho, they adjusted and now it stays in gear and no more popping out.
Hope this helps.
