Default Full throttle

WOW,
had an interesting drive after work.
I was going to stop by Sears in Belleville to pick something up on the way home.
Well half way there, accelerating on the onramp to the 401 at the 10 acre truck stop, the gas peddle slammed to the floor.
It took full braking to slide to a stop with the engine straining to turn the wheels. (I was in 4 Hi)
I put it in park and the RPM climbed to around 3500-4000 and stayed there.
Peddle was flat to the floor, and the red Throttle sensor warning light lite on the dash.

Not Cool.

I turned it off and waited a few seconds. Peddle still to the floor and wouldn't move even when I tried to pull it up by hand.

Engine wouldn't start when I turned the key, it just turned over.

A few more seconds of waiting and the peddle jumped back up.

I turned the key and the engine started, throttle position sensor light still on, then the peddle dropped again and the RPM started climbing so off went the key.

I waited again, the peddle came back up, waited some more, tried it again, and it started and seemed to work fine.
Now what?
After sitting there for about 2 minutes idling, I put it back in drive and pulled away.
Had no problem after that so I stopped at Sears.
On the way home, same damn thing happened.
I was only a few km from the house, so I did the same thing again to get home. Should have had my cell phone with me but it was home charging.

I called the dealer and we all agree that I will get Roadside to come and flatbed it to the dealer in the morning.

Could it just be the cold?

I haven't washed it or got it wet last week before the temp dropped , but it must have something to do with it.
I'll let you know what they say tomorrow after they have a look at it.

AND I asked about a rental/loaner, since I got the GOLD warranty when I got the car, I am entitled for a rental, but NOT first day, and since they aren't going to see the car till tomorrow (I called then 15 minutes before they closed) so I won't get a replacement unless I am still without a car on Sat.

WELL IF IT WERE ME....I would be on the phone to transport canada.
and make this a known thing cause this is something the dealer and chrysler will want to keep a secret.

your jeep is so new I would have thrown the keys at them and said give me a new one or i want my money back.

that just isnt a matter to be taken lightly!

keep us posted ps going there for an oil change (24$ oilchange that i double check everything on it that they could have touched) tomorrow, I'll be sure to ask them how they are making out with your jeep and faulty runaway throttle out loud in front of everyone.

because BELLEVILLE DODGE CHRYSLER JEEP SERVICE sux!

Whoa.....seeing as this is the FIRST time we have heard about this ever, I am thinking it has to do with the cold. I dont know if I would have a conniption fit as that wont solve anything. Go in there and CALMLY try to resolve the situation. I know it was shitty but jesus it would be anything. Although the fact that this is throttle by wire kind of concerns me.

Wow, that sucks man. Must have been scary, I can only imagine if it happened to my Jeep with my wife driving and 2 kids in the back. That concerns me. And guys, I've said it before, but I think we're fonna see alot more weird crap like this as the Jeeps get older. Just too many electronics unnecessarily contolling everything. I'm really starting not to trust mine, especially since I'm out of warranty.

Wow Glad to hear everything is okay. I remember Art saying that about the stupid electronic throtle crap, I hope that doesnt happen to anyone else, and they dont give the "can not duplicate problem". The dealership better replace the damn computer in your jeep, and everything that goes with throttle control!!!! All for your safety and other people on the road. Good luck and keep us updated

Holy Schnykys that's crazy!!!! frig Rob I glad you are still around to tell the story... sounds like the old Audi ghost on the throttle problem a few years ago...
I don't know if this is related but during the white out storm we had on Tuesday night at 5:15 or so my wiper motor stopped right when I was
heading on Sir JA MacDonald ...while the sticky snow covered the windshield
and cars behind, beside and in front of me...I managed to get off to the side and after a few minutes they started to work again...?

Yeah there was a bit of pucker factor when it happened the second time driving home.
I was following 2 cars, the first slowed to turn off the road, then the car infront of me and I accelerated away, problem was, when I got to 80km (Posted speed) and I lifted my foot off the gas peddle, it stayed down.
I thought I was going to re-end the car infront, but I got on the brakes and off the road onto the shoulder.
So the peddle stuck on (with the throttle sensor light), both times that I depressed the gas peddle beyond half. I think that I was around 3/4 peddle, maybe a bit more both times, but I don't think that I was flat down either time.

The Dealer called me back after they closed, and was asking if my floor mats were stuck under the peddle. God are they going to question if it even happened?

whtIwrk4 you are too right.
the first thing I could think of when I got out of the jeep, was what would have happened if my son had been driving.
He is sixteen and been waiting since last summer for his mom to let him write his drivers test.
He is doing that in 2 more weeks, then I was planning on going out with him, might not be in the jeep though now.

I'll post up tomorrow once I get the jeep there.
Anyone dealt with the roadside assistance yet?
I'm planning on calling them first thing in the morning and seeing how long it takes.

ya my reaction is more out of how much belleville dodge sux

wanting you to call road side assist " uhm no sorry i'm a little tired from standing on the brake pedal your the service department you handle it. ya if that happen with my wife and kid in the jeep, i think i would have aimed it at the showroom as i brought it there.

that is bad service, they should have been 100% help full
this is how it should have went
tunes - my jeep throttle is stuck and acting up the jeep took off and nearly had an accident.
service guy- oh my!, are you in a safe place is everyone ok turn the jeep off where are you? ok we are sending someone right over, whats you name and address we will contact roadside for you. please take the keys out and we will be right there to take a look.
tunes-ok great ya everyone is fine thank you for handling this it was very scarey---oh i'm going to need a vehicle---
service guy- sure no problem i see you have the gold warranty well usually we have to wait 24hr before we can give you one but in this case it is ok i
mean do to the circumstances.

Tunes you should have been treated like gold.. you paid for it!

I cant wait to go there tomorrow morning.

tell you what for fun i will ask them --"have you ever heard of the throttle sticking on one of these.....and see where they go with it.
willing to bet they would look at mine and say well you have a snorkel so that could cause it if it was to happen. or my scan gauge made it happen.

I recall when i bought my neon back in 94 3 months after i was in kingston and the battery died, well we push started it cause we wanted to get home from stages, when i took it to the dealer the service guy said you should have called we would have sent a truck and taken care of it all. meaning he would have at my house the next morning he didnt know the kingston part cause it says not to bump start....ya so the sales guy sees me and he gives me crap for not calling and says here is my company car go home we will check it all out we are very sorry this happened.......i was treated like gold on a 3 month old car that i paid 19K for, i got my car back the following day with a new battery a list of tests they ran a couple of tsbs and recalls they did and a wash and wax with interior detailing and cause they used my fuel for diagnostics they filled it up and did my oil change as well

how come that level of service doesn't exist at a bigger dealer.

let us know if anyone from the dealer says 'sorry this happened to you'

i'm willing to bet they didn't ask if everyone was alright
