Future of Jeep: Here’s What to Expect in the Next Few Years
Here’s what to expect from the Jeep lineup between now and the end of the current decade, with lots of refreshes and redesigns scheduled.
Jeep, like many of its peers, is in the midst of some turbulent times, with a lot of uncertainties revolving around things like electrification and legislation. While many things have stayed largely the same as of late, others have changed, and in the hyper-competitive automotive space, making the wrong decision at the wrong time can result in disaster. Thus, we’re always curious to see what automakers like Jeep have planned for the future, and a recent roadmap gives us a pretty good idea of just that.
This roadmap comes to us from Automotive News, which recently outlined the many changes Jeep has in store for its future lineup, mostly between now and the end of the current decade. Things kick off with the new Cherokee, which is slated to arrive on dealer lots by the end of the year. As for the Compass, production at the Brampton Assembly Plant is currently paused as production of the next-generation model is slated to begin in February 2026, but its future seems to be a subject of debate. Previously, an EV Compass was set to arrive next year, followed by an ICE version in 2027.
For fans of the Jeep Gladiator, it’s worth noting that the rugged pickup will continue into 2028 as it stands now, but a redesigned model is expected to arrive at that point – though another report indicates that the next-generation version may not arrive until later, in 2032. The Grand Cherokee is slated to receive a refresh this fall, which is also the case for the Grand Cherokee L, with the next-generation version current expected to arrive in 2027, potentially underpinned by the STLA Large platform.
Those seeking another all-electric Jeep could be getting one before the end of the year in the form of the Recon, along with an EV version of the Renegade, which has already been announced for 2027. On the flip side of the spectrum, the Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer are slated to get a refresh and an extended-range electric vehicle (EREV) powertrain soon, followed by EV versions in 2027. Sources also indicate that the regular Wagoneer may be dropped, consolidating that model into the Grand Wagoneer only. Meanwhile, the Wagoneer S is still fairly new and will roll on essentially unchanged for the foreseeable future.
Then there’s the fan favorite Jeep Wrangler, which is expected to get a redesign in 2028 as well. That could also mark the arrival of EREV and EV versions of the legendary SUV, but thankfully, it seems as if the Hemi-powered Rubicon 392 will be sticking around after it disappeared from the lineup briefly in 2024.
