SGT US Army/National Guard. In Afghanistan now(be home soon), first tour was in Iraq during the Invasion of Iraq. I just re-up not to long ago so ETS is now 2015. I'll probably stay in until I die or they kick me out. LOL Been in since 2000.

My Son (GM3, VLS Type) is now floating in the same Puddle that I was stationed in during the Tanker Wars of the late 80's.
My Best Time and Tour was with COMIDEASFOR/CJTFME based on USS LaSalle in Bahrain. Was a Stinger Gunner with that group (J-3 Stinger Det) when we would TAD to every floating anything transiting the straights of Hormuz the last time the Iranians started crap. Also had a great time at the USMC ADA School in Fort Bliss TX, although Fat Drunk Squids do not appreciate the Corps PT at Zero Dark Thirty when they have just returned from Juarez 20 minutes before. Especially when the Gunny makes said Fat Drunk Squid be Road Guard every Morning!
Stinger Gunners attached to CJTFME and BMU2 were Non-Rates (long story about AX being full and recruiter telling me "try Airman apprentiship"
) and sent to ADA after volunteering for Stinger duty.
Anyway, after the Iran-Iraq war ends the Navy starts to break up the Stinger Det. I am striking GMG and ready to take the 3rd class in two months anyway. The Navy grants up to go to an A school. So, no brainer put down GMG and GMM. The Chit has a third spot.... Hmmm... lets get a Bluejacket Manual what else in the Ord group??? Don't matter I am obviously heading back to the Lakes for GMG School.. OK Mineman... Hey Chief? whats a Mineman??? Dunno, someone who takes batteries out mines or something.... Don't matter your going to the Lakes for GMG A School. Great...Thanks Chief...
Fast Foward....Orders...WTF! Report Fleet and Mine Warfare Training Center Charleston SC for MN A School.... NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Let see A School+Fleet Returnee+over 21+been living in the Middle East for over a year= Captains Mast!!!
Nothing like a Article 82 for 'Contributing to the Deliquency of a Minor" to get a Conus tour off right!
Well at least the Co of the base had just returned from the Gulf himself and his last command was a warship that my group help shepard through the straights. Whew! He dropped it but, Crusty McCrud Chief still had a hard on for me the rest of A School.
Got Orders to Weapon Station Earl, met my wife and protected NJ during Desert Storm (lots of irony considering the amount I time I spent in Kuwait prior). Next tour was to be Gitmo, Rosy Rhodes or Keflivik so I packed it in.
