Thumbs up 2012 Trail Openings & Updates

Well thankfully it's that season again, we will be itching for the trails to open up as the snow melts. I will do my best to keep this thread updated with info. Hoping for a early start to trail openings this year as opposed to last years late openings. Reports as follows are an encouraging sign this may happen. Lets hope the snow stays away.

-------Report from Lake Edison over the weekend of April 8th---------

There was only 1-2' of snow around the compound and another 4-6" fell while they were there. Edison Co. is already scheduled to plow Kaiser Pass on May 1st according to the FS and they don't think it will take more than a day.

Hoping the warmer temps will melt the recent fallen snow.

Bald Mountain is always open, and it's passable as of last weekend. I suspect it will remain so till next winter, unless we get dumped on with snow. Snow is melting pretty quick up there!

According to National Forrest publications MVUM. The following trails will be open on the specific dates not withstanding any conditions that would keep them closed longer.

Strawberry Lake, Mirror, West, Red, and Coyote, Brewer Lakes are to be opened: June 16th - Nov 1st

Swamp Lake is going to be opened July 1st - Nov 1st

Dusy Ershim is going to open Aug 1st - Nov 1st

All date are subject to conditions of the trails, and Forrest Service could open these trails earlier, that's their call.
Copies of the MVUM maps are available at the Forest Service H.Q.s on Tollhouse Rd. in Clovis, and the office in Prather.

Hope to see you on the trails.

It looks like a trail maintenance crew will be heading into Red Lake this weekend (6-2) and possibly Coyote also. Good chances are they will leave the gate open as they leave!
