Default Axle Update

Well, albeit not the final chapter.... I received a call this morning from Paul service manager from my dealership.. K'town Dodge.. and he got the final word from HO and a big negative to warranty repair.... But, and this is a pretty good "but".. not a great "but" he said that they would do the repair basically for half the price being eaten by the dealership.... This is still going to cost me 2100+ but it is better than the 4g's it was going to be...

Transport Canada called and will want the photos sent and they will look at the axle housing but because this occured off-road they will not consider it as a viable issue for a recall.... so that is all I have for now I will update as I hear

don't forget to check your axles

A bitter pill to swallow. I would definietly be considering some "upgrades" to that axle for sure.

Is that 2100 with labour?

Hey Guys
I know you haven’t heard from me in a while but I was just strolling throw the forum and noticed a warranty problem. And if there is one thing I have learned from the extensive 4 page list of warranty items I have, is someone somewhere will cover it. There is ONLY one reason it should not be covered, if you are over 60,000km on the jeep. If you are under there is no reason for them to deny your repair as warranty. And it would have to happen more than twice for them to call it “abuse”. I would continue to fight it and try other dealers... I know it might be a little hard because the jeep is undrivable but $2000+ is a lot to swallow.

If you do go ahead with the half price replacement see if they will split a Dana 60 or even if it cost you slightly more and they are still biting most of the cost or labour it might be worth it and easer to justify the cost to yourself if it an upgrade to your jeep. I mean id be pissed to shell out 2000+ for the statuesque but $3000 for a major upgrade I would be a little more content with. Just a thought.

Anyways id still check out other places first. Best of luck!
Kris

Ps I know it sucks to be without your jk. Mine in at the dealers too getting a new tranny... unfortunately I am over the 60,000km mark and they wont do the other repairs under warranty... ill have a fun weekend of work then it gets back though lol

Anyways sorry for a book lol

I agree I would really fight that, there is NO reason why a axle houseing should snap like that....

I'll be checking mine out this weekend while I've got the coils out of her that's for sure...

I disagree on the part of starting to drag your jeep from dealership to another this info is most likely attached to his vin yes 2100 is a bitter sweet pill to swallow but getting a bill stating jeep paid for half is good enough arsenal for if it happens again then I would go after them with all guns blazing

Another thing is no one saw what happened under the ice and water the true physics behind this yes there have been other cases where the tube has failed under similar circumstances but maybe it is just that sh!t happens

Another point to consider is he gets his jeep back at half the cost or he goes to court and lose and be out his jeep still , court fees , lawyer fees and 4000 for a new front end

Rod take the deal remember. 1st time shame on you 2nd time shame on them

But this is just my opinion

Thank guys but Paul is taking the hit at the dealership not Chrysler. (and me of course) They are not in anyway involved in this.. due to the fact that I was offroad when it happened. So much for the trail rated badge.

You know that recall way back when, about the noise coming sitting at idle? When I had that fixed at under 20,000km (and I had to argue with the dealership to do it...) I told them they didn’t do it right and they insisted they did, well they messed up something, I noticed the syncros failing so I brought it in and they discover other problems and was cause for replacement. But like any good steelership They did manage to get some money out of me, They made me paid to have the tranny fluid changed because they said it was too dark lol and over charged me for it because they know what they had to do... I asked another dealer for the price of the fluid change and it was $80 dollars less but I guess you win some and loss some... That is why I never trust what one dealer says... anyways that's way it is in the shop, I am just glad it failed before I went over the 100k mark!

Because I am over the 60k mark my basic warranty is over, so when it gets back to me hoping next week (tannys are on back order... I guess I am not the first) I will have to replace the left upper and lower ball joints and the right hub but that is probable caused from water crossings... and not too expensive to do yourself (steelership wanted almost a grand!) plus my “super charger” is back lol the belt tensioner is making noise lol they want $150 to fix out of warranty but I guess I’ll just pick up the part for a couple bucks in my spare time... but all that stuff is not a real problem because I know how to avoid it, stay out of water lol haha yeah right lol

There is one recent problem I might need advice on if anyone has any insight. My power steering started to cut in and out, usually then starting from a stop or at low speeds and turning to the left. But it comes back after about 10sec. Anyone have any ideas? I did not have time to investigate it because it happened the day before the jeep went for the new tranny. When I comes back I am going to grease it and hope that makes it better but I would like to know what is could be?

Ps I think I will save a virgin lol nice email lol haha

What are you going to grease for power steering? Sounds to me that your pump is going? Maybe check fluid levels? (honestly I dont know though as I have never even looked for the pump on my JK)

The fact it happens on left turns though kind of makes me wonder if it is a steering stabilizer.

The power steering issue sounds like it's the pump... Might either have dirt or an bubble in it (if it's making a grinding sound when it cuts out, it's an air bubble, if there is no sound most likely dirt) Hopefully that all it is and bleeding the system then changing out the fluid will fix the problem.. Use to happen on my YJ and TJ Sport... "It's a Jeep Thing"

Then again if your belt tensioner is messed up it might just be slippage.. and once you fix that, it might just resolve its self.
