Montreal area run in July - who's in ...?
Hi folks
As promised here are the details for the Chertsey run.
Time: Sat 25th July. Be gassed up, breakfasted and ready to leave for the trails at 0845. Front tow hooks are mandatory (rear preferable). Recovery equipment, CB, lunch and bug spray will also be useful.
Place: Patate Marco parking lot (7160 Rte 125, Chertsey, Quebec – good place for breakfast). You will see the sign – a big yellow M on a red background (similarity to the McDonald’s logo is completely coincidental!). There is also a gas station next door. Marco is on the main highway through Chertsey (Rte 125) on the right just past a large supermarket (Provigo?).
Directions from Montreal:
http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=d&sourc...27831&t=h&z=16
Trail Head: We should arrive at the trail head for around 0915. Air down / disconnect and driver’s meeting.
So just to whet your appetites and give everyone a heads-up on what to expect …
1st Run: Beer Run (rated 2.5 out of 5).
This is a stock run with some water (not deep), mud and rock climbs. Nothing a stock truck can’t handle.
Here is a video clip of the Montreal Land Rover club running the trail last year. I’m in the silver Discovery with street tires. Enjoy - it was as painful as it looked. It’s my wife’s daily driver, and she was with me. I was so careful but still managed to damage the front bumper

2nd Run: Hailstorm (rated 3 out of 5).
This is a stock(ish) run with water (not deep), long streches of mud+rocks, some mild off-camber moments and a couple of hill climbs. We will run it both ways (stopping at the end of the trail for a break). There are two significant obstacbles:
1. Steep rock descent (out) and ascent (return). Descend to the left. Stock guys might need help with ascent.
Video: Same video at 8:01 (the first Disco is taking the more extreme right line; others descend the left side). This video at 2:22 for the easier line

2. S-Turn. Large rock that needs to be climbed over to turn a sharp S-bend. Stock Saharas (especially the 4 doors) might damage their running boards / steps / rocker panels here. We’ll be very careful.
Video: Second video at 8:27
3rd Run: Anonymous (rated 3 out of 5).
This is a stock(ish) run with long stretches of rock gardens, a couple of rock ledges to climb / drop off, and some mild off-camber moments. We will run it both ways (stopping at the end of the trail for a break). Stock guys might need help with ascending some of the rock shelves / spotting through the larger rock gardens. Skid plates will see some action (especially the stock trucks).
Optional: The end of this trail is Connector (4 out of 5), which is a connector from the end of this trail to the main road. If some of the guys want to try this we can split the group – one group returns back along Anonymous, the other heads out through Connector. Connector has a mud pit, some moderate/severe off-camber moments, large rock gardens and some very tight turns (need to be very careful with the 4 doors). 35s and lockers recommended.
Hope this information is useful. If any of the stock guys don’t fancy running a particular trail we can leave the vehicle at the trail head and they can ride with one of the modified rigs. Although we follow the “slow and easy” school, there is always an inherent risk of damage to vehicles. No pressure either way - it's entirely up to you.
See you on the 25th. We’ll have a roll-call again next week to confirm attendance.

Man... 8:45am... That means I gotta leave home around 7:00am or so... I gotta walk the dog first, but maybe I'll skip the shower and breakfast. :-)
I ordered my LTB-207s from National4wd. Supposedly they'll be here next week (fingers crossed), so I _might_ be able to make it. I can't wait to try 'em on the highway (and trails). They're supposed to be loud as hell. <grin>

The TC skid comes in handy. I expect that I'll have to bang mine back into shape by the end of this summer... :-)

Awesome vids, looks like it'll be a fun time!
So does anyone from the West Island want to meet somewhere to convoy up there? (Simon, I'm looking in your direction, since you know how to get there, lol)
I just ordered a snatch strap, and am debating if I should remove my side steps too...
Edit: Simon, I just tried to send you a PM, your inbox is full... I think you said that you had some rocker guards that you'd be willing to part with? Let me know, I'd like to have a little extra protection if I can for the run...

Convoy sounds good.
I have some slightly scarred MOPAR tube steps which will save your rocker panels. I'll PM you.
