I have cooked anywhere from 250-600 chicken halves a month from march through November for the last seven years. Hardwood lump charcoal is all I ever used. The only downfall is you'll never go back to anything else!

Ok, old thread, but I had to chime in, grilling , hardwood lump is great, I love it, great flavor and good heat, but I still get briquettes for cooking in the dutch oven, easier to maintain the cooking times I learned to cook with using briquettes.
