Run Details:

New River Canyon
Saturday, July 12th
Meet time: 8:00 AM
Meet place: Exit 236 on I-17, just east of the northbound on/off ramps
Run Length: 66 miles (20 through New River Canyon, 13 on FR24, 23 on Cave Creek Rd & Carefree Hwy - back to I-17 at exit 223)
Level of Difficulty: Moderate according to my book. It notes high ground clearance and good articulation are needed. Only one "tough spot" is noted but it does not say what makes it tough. Suitable for aggresive stock SUVs - to which I think the Jeep is...but I could be wrong.

**State Trust Land Recreational Permit Required since we cross some STL land in the first few miles**

Let me know if you guys want more details and please sound off if you plan to come. Should be a 5-6 hour run, max. Bring 2-way radios if you got 'em. And of course bring water and snacks.

If you plan it, they will come.... J/K

I'm always up for some wheelin', I think we've got some junkies down here in Tucson that would be up for some runs a 'lil north of here. We've almost beaten the trails down here into submission.

Did you see the thread that Scouter4life has going this weekend? It's a night run so it should be a 'lil cooler.

Hey Mitchell,

I did see about the run this Saturday night. I'm heading to the Mogollon Rim early in the day to do some hiking at Horton Creek so I won't be able to make it. It would also be a long haul to come back afterwards, up to 2 hours depending on route and traffic (and cops).

I'd be happy to pick the route, day and time but I'm hoping someone who has run either of the two routes above will join us.

The only PHX area trails I've done are Crown king and Sun flower mine loop.

So post up a time and place and we'll see where it goes from there, and if none of us have done it, it'll be even more challenging.

New River Canyon Run
Stock Jeeps can run this (from what I have read)
Begins: Table Mesa Rd & I-17 (Exit 236)
Ends: FR24 north of Seven Springs (can turn around and go back to start or take FR 24 south into Carefree & Cave Creek and then use Carefree Hwy to get back to I-17)

Date: Saturday, July 12th
Time: 9:00 AM meet up at Exit 236 (I'll scout out an exact spot and post here within a couple weeks) *If 9 is too early for people coming from out of town let me know.

A book tells me this run should be a 5-6 hour run covering 56 miles (20 through New River Canyon, 13 miles of gravel road and 23 miles of pavement). This will put you back onto I-17 at the Carefree Hwy Exit 223.

A State Trust Permit will be necessary. A Tonto Day Pass will only be necessary if you wish to stop and park on or off of FR 24 and use the area. You can pass through at no cost.

Have fun without me on that one guys. I'd love to make it though. I'll be in Houston from July 10-19th... Is that the only time you're available for that run?

Never done that one, but seeing as that will be the day before heading out camping with the Scouts fr a week, I probably will not be able to make it, bu I'll be sure to keep it marked just in case I find some free time.

I'm open any weekend in July so if you can't make it please post an acceptable alternate weekend.

Keep me in mind on any runs for July. I hope to get my lift soon. If there are any takers in Phoenix, I will have a lift party and supply whoever wants with beer and pizza in return for expertise in installing a 2.5" BB and the use of tools required. Probably a Rough Country with shocks. Plus you would get to meet good old wonderful me.

I'd be happy to attend and assist with the beer & pizza. As for the install all I'd be good for is watching.

Any AZ folks available a July run? Any Saturday after the 5th is doable, the later weeks would be preferred by the Tucson folks so they can attend. Chime in!
