Default Ouch!!!! :(

Alright so here is what happened!!!!

Drive to work heard a humming noise could not figure out if it was coming from the front and rear. I was driving down the road when i coasted it was making a really really loud humming noise.. I knew something was not right i was going to start diagnosing it as soon as i got home tonight. driving back home it started making weird clunk noises when the jeep shifted into 1st gear i have an automatic.

i said you know what i am going to stop by the dealership and get this looked at. pulled into the dealer got into the parking lot about to park BAm loud snap noise and rear tires locked up and the jeep stopped put it into park I was only going 5 mph and got out really quick looked underneath and saw this...

We will see what happens tomorrow i am going to have jeep diagnose everything and see what happens.

From the pictures it looks like the pinion snapped which means it won't be a cheap fix. Will need a new ring and pinion for sure. Might be a good opportunity to regear if the dealership doesn't end up doing the work.

I was thinking the same thing, but first i would just pull the rear diff and drain the fluid to see if there are any chunks in the fluid. If not I would see What the pinion looks like and see what the threads look like to see if the Nut just came loose or if it broke off. If is came loose, you already said your seal was leaking, so might just need to put a new bearing and seal in it and be good to go.

I might run over there around lunch time and check in to see if they got the jeep apart yet so i can look with my own eyes and see exactly what the damage is... not that i do not trust the techs at the dealership but always good to see with your own eyes what exactly happen
