Best 1911
I have a PSP but I would go for a Kimber in a heart beat. I had a chance to buy one and didn't but I should have. Best 1911 I have ever shot. Of course the worst was a Govt issue 1911 I shot in boot camp. The front sight came out in the middle of my qualification...
I like the RIA, Kimbers,, Wilsons a bit more, and of course colt.. on a budget I'd go RIA if your not going to carry and just range as they are great 1911's and about $500. I've had mine go through 1100 now without a single FTF/FTE and that is common with the RIA. The Colts are very nice also. Cant go wrong with an original. I got my eve on a "new agent" as a possible carry light and small and dehorned from factory for a no snag pocket carry. And if your going to keep as a range piece go full size.. less issues.. and better accuracy. Check out 1911.org
working on a trade for a Springfield 1911a1 right now... always wanted a 1911. However, with my short attention span I will probably keep it a couple months and then trade up for a Saiga 12.
I love up trading... this trade string started as an old 22 revolver, to a tokarev, to an sks, to a gsg-5, and hopefuly next the 1911, then saiga 12, then who knows.
so much fun!

I'm a big fan of the Para Ordnance GI Expert. I've recommended it to several people and every one of them has been happy with it. And you can buy 3 of them for $1500.

I carry a Kimber Pro CarryII in the winter and it is a great pistol. I have also owned an Ultra CDP and a Springfield. I have Colts mostly and I don't think you can go wrong either way. No one has mentioned SIGs. I have one I really love for carry. It has a 4in barrel and a officer's grip. It really feels good in the hand. I believe each person has his own beliefs but in my opinion you should hold as many of these guns as possible. Most name brand companies make quality products. I'd buy the one that fit me best. Also look at slimmer grips. They make the gun feel so much better in MY hands. Good luck!
I have a para ordinance 1911 9mm Hawg 9 and Wart Hog 45 cal. The 9mm 1911 is the best gun I have ever shot. My second favorite is the Taurus 1911 just because of the price point and it shoots awesome. One day I will have a Kimber Raptor it is suppose to be the shit!
