Best 1911?
Sorry, I guess I was just looking for specifics. Like build quality, what exactly about the build quality do you prefer? Metal composition, finish, slide lock up, barrel lock up, timing, firing pin composition, polished parts, rounded edges, attention to detail, etc. I'm looking for verifiable specifics, something that points to one as superior to the other.
Negative points on the Sig go to the cheap grips most come with. thats why mine wear VZ grips. Negative points on the Kimber are their trigger. Yuck.
Now dont think that I'm just a Sig fanboy. I am, but for a reason. I own two sig pistols and have owned two sig rifles, down to one at the moment. I sold my Kimber less than a week after handling and shooting a friends base model Sig 1911 Nitron. I love 1911s and I have owned four of them throughout my life, and until something new and revolutionary comes out, it will be a Sig for me.
In closing, there is nothing wrong with Kimber. I just feel that one can get way more bang for their buck with a Sig. That and I love their big Siggy out of spec slide.

Also, again I think you missed what I said. I have a Springfield as well, AND I recommended the Springfield TRP Operator..... so not sure where you got the idea that I've never had a "good" 1911.
You're right, it's all preference. The Sig has a beefier slide, so it is a wee bit heavier up front, but I actually enjoy that. Just preference.
Yeah I recommended those in my first response to this post. Amazing race guns for sure. But man what a price tag.
I am a big Sig fan, but the 1911 IMHO having owned one is yet to be their best offering. My Kimber is more accurate and feels better in my hand. As we all know, feel is very subjective.
Friends that I shoot with regularly and I trade off, and Ed Brown, STI, and Les Bear are my favorites.
For me it comes down to how much I am willing to spend, and what I will use the gun for (daily carry, IDPA, etc...).
My recommendation is to visit a range that rents the models you have in mind and decide for yourself.

I'm only fairly new to pistol shooting (here in Australia we need to jump through a few more hoops than you guys on the 'States on order to shoot and own handguns) however when I was at the range recently for a shoot one of the guys in my club offered me a go of his Sig 226. I can't quite put my finger on it (pun intended) whether it was the trigger-pull weight or the fact that it broke like glass while at the same time being progressive however that thing fit me like a glove and I got a better group than I did from a Ruger mk3 .22lr target pistol. I was looking at getting a Colt at my first 1911 in order to keep things traditional however now I'll be looking a bit closer at the Sig.
