Goolge is your friend. I don't mean to sound like an ass but Im not going to write you a novel. However, look at it like this. Across the board both 1911s are nearly identical in all facets you mentioned with the exception of a few. Finish, is better on the Sig. Sigs Nitron finish far exceeds anything Kimber puts on theirs. Lock up. I've owned both, and handled many. Barrel and slide lock up is hard to determine on a brand to brand basis, and is more relevant pistol to pistol, as most 1911s are hand fit. From my experience, the Sigs are tighter. So as i said, minus these few points, the pistols are dead even, which brings me to price. Gun for gun, you will get more for what you pay for versus Kimber. When you buy a Kimber, you pay for a name and an almost cult like following.

Negative points on the Sig go to the cheap grips most come with. thats why mine wear VZ grips. Negative points on the Kimber are their trigger. Yuck.

Now dont think that I'm just a Sig fanboy. I am, but for a reason. I own two sig pistols and have owned two sig rifles, down to one at the moment. I sold my Kimber less than a week after handling and shooting a friends base model Sig 1911 Nitron. I love 1911s and I have owned four of them throughout my life, and until something new and revolutionary comes out, it will be a Sig for me.

In closing, there is nothing wrong with Kimber. I just feel that one can get way more bang for their buck with a Sig. That and I love their big Siggy out of spec slide.

I've owned both and prefer my Kimber. It felt more balanced and better in my hand. It's all personal preference at this point. You can't go wrong with either one.

Never had a "good" 1911? Uh..... you read that I have a custom Caspian, right? ... though I guess you're right; Kimber is a "good" gun, whereas Caspian is a "great" gun

Also, again I think you missed what I said. I have a Springfield as well, AND I recommended the Springfield TRP Operator..... so not sure where you got the idea that I've never had a "good" 1911.

You're right, it's all preference. The Sig has a beefier slide, so it is a wee bit heavier up front, but I actually enjoy that. Just preference.

Also, does anyone here have an STI 1911? Made in Texas, awesome awesome 1911s, if you're looking for a 1911 and haven't checked them out you're really missing out!

Yeah I recommended those in my first response to this post. Amazing race guns for sure. But man what a price tag.

I am a big Sig fan, but the 1911 IMHO having owned one is yet to be their best offering. My Kimber is more accurate and feels better in my hand. As we all know, feel is very subjective.

Friends that I shoot with regularly and I trade off, and Ed Brown, STI, and Les Bear are my favorites.

For me it comes down to how much I am willing to spend, and what I will use the gun for (daily carry, IDPA, etc...).

My recommendation is to visit a range that rents the models you have in mind and decide for yourself.

Yeah, what is it with those Sig triggers?

I'm only fairly new to pistol shooting (here in Australia we need to jump through a few more hoops than you guys on the 'States on order to shoot and own handguns) however when I was at the range recently for a shoot one of the guys in my club offered me a go of his Sig 226. I can't quite put my finger on it (pun intended) whether it was the trigger-pull weight or the fact that it broke like glass while at the same time being progressive however that thing fit me like a glove and I got a better group than I did from a Ruger mk3 .22lr target pistol. I was looking at getting a Colt at my first 1911 in order to keep things traditional however now I'll be looking a bit closer at the Sig.
