I always remove my pistol when I get in my Jeep and then discreetly tuck it back into its holster before I get out.

Also, if someone were to steal my Jeep I wouldn't worry about my pistol not being with me anymore. After all the criminal is already gone (in my vehicle) and my pistol would do me no good against a criminal that is already gone. Not to mention that the chances of a violent crime are extremely low, but the chance of two crimes happening to the same person in the same time frame are extremely minuscule.

That being said, I understand what you are saying and where you are coming from.

Cheers!
it is IRRESPONSIBLE to leave a gun in your vehicle !
if someone steals your jeep, and youve left any gun in it - youve just enabled additional crimes.

youre betting that this is never gonna happen...and it DOES absolutely happen.

if youre sitting at a light or in traffic you may NOT have a chance to drive away..Im not advocating driving and shooting....thats irresponsible imo.

If i see see someone walking up to my vehicle or walking in traffic you can bet my gun is already drawn...and YES i do keep a shape eye towards my environment and whats going on around me.

It is nice to meet you, 8152 FAST here. That's pretty nifty that you learned to drive in a populated area with traffic and shoot at the same time.

Yeah, I would think stick shift would make it harder lol

I am guessing that you missed the part where I stated that I bring my firearm with me when I leave the vehicle. Regardless, I find your logic more then a bit confusing.

If it is irresponsible of me to leave my pistol in my vehicle because it can enable more crimes, is it also irresponsible of me to leave a pistol at home? What if someone were to break into my home while I am away and steal it? What if, while it is on my body, I am mugged and decide my best course of action is to surrender and the criminal now has my pistol? Am I still enabling more crime? According to the Castle Doctrine passed in 2007 the state believes that it is perfectly legal and acceptable to leave your firearm in your vehicle as long as it is properly secured. Would I also be enabling crime if someone steals it, or my vehicle, while I am in the post office or the bank?

No, as you can read I am betting that the chances are extremely low. The odds of your car being stolen in the US is 1 in 187.3, and the odds of a murder is 1 in 18,690. So first I have to have my car stolen in this scenario (~.5%) and then I must be accosted (~0.005%). I bet against such low odds the same way that I would bet you that even if I played the Pick 6 every day, 2 times a day, for the rest of my life that I would not win. In fact, if I ever do win I will do my best to track you down and split it with you 50/50.

Man you really like that word irresponsible

This is true, you don't always have a chance to do anything. There is no one answer to any one problem. I'm just glad that you have found your own!

Action is always faster then reaction, glad you are so vigilant! Hopefully you, and yours, will never have a problem with any of this!

Here in the great state of NEVADA, without a permission slip, you can carry it loaded ANYWHERE in the vehicle, just not concealed on your person. If you're wearing a OWB holster, that doesn't mean the center console is making it concealed. But if you're wearing your shirt over it then it's concealed.

With a CCW anything goes. Carry as many how ever you want.

Long guns cannot be chambered.

For a better understanding of the state law you check out Handgunlaw.us

They're pretty up to date on the laws and has a map showing what state will honor your CCW.

Tuffy glovebox when it's not on me. Only there when at work (hospital), state or federal building, or at a bar.

Being a Norwegian (basically no guns allowed anywhere there..), living in CA, I really find this thread interesting!!!

When I first came to CA on a business visa in 2005, I was told that I was not allowed to buy any gun... BUT I could legally buy a 50 cal muzzleloader used for elephant hunting at Basspro, without ANY restrictions... So funny.
And yes, I did. Still got it, locked up as the law requires...
Keeping a gun in my jeep is not an option, not even a desire, unless heading for the desert to do some target practice. And even then it's transported in the back, locked in a steel box, with the mags locked in the glove compartment. But that's just me. Everyone is different.

Merry Christmas!

you are permitted to carry (open or concealed) in your vehicle in texas - the language says you MAY carry loaded, it does not say you are required to carry UNloaded.

an UNLOADED weapon is worthless - from a personal protection perspective, you may not have (even the seconds that it takes) to insert a clip or rack around.

imo carrying in a vehicle provides very little if not very LIMITED protection....even if you commute far & long youre only in your vehicle a few minutes or hours a day.

LEAVING a gun in a vehicle is dangers and borders on irresponsible imo...especially if its not locked in a secure gun safe, the last thing any of us want is for our guns to fall into the wrong hands.

If youre really concerned for your personal safety - take a day and get your CHL...the license is only 150 bucks & its good for 5 years...classes are 100-150 bucks.

theres a good summary here regarding the CONDITIONS of unlicensed carry (in a vehicle) - http://www.handgunlaw.us/states/texas.pdf

I keep my firearm on my person, unless of course I'm entering a federal building. In this case, I lock my pistol in a lockbox in my Jeep. These parking lots are secure, so I don't have to worry as much about car theft.

I bought a rare earth magnet at a gun show and with some shoe goo and supplied screws it sits right on the outside of the entertainment console to the left of the window controls. It will hold a fully loaded glock .45 with extended mag no problem and more importantly with no rattle and the magnet does not interfere with any of the glocks mechanisms. I had thought about the under the steering wheel set up a lot of people had and even did a mock up. But for me, the draw was unnatural and very cramped and I am not a big guy either. With the magnet mounted up where it is the draw is much smoother, faster, and easier to put rounds down range. For those that have safety concerns (which we all should) when mounted, the gun points away from anyone in the vehicle and away from any appendages of the driver as well. Very safe and very happy with it. I will post pics later if people are interested.
