Default Looking to buy the ruger m77 hawkeye

Hey ya'll

im shopping around for a hunting rifle. My dad and i will be going deer hunting next season and he said I should invest in a rifle so i dont have to use his anymore

he has the browning BLR in a .308 so i was looking for something in another caliber like the ruger m77 hawkeye 30-06.

I would like to hear from anyone who owns this rifle in any caliber just to see what you think about it. I know ruger is an excellent company and has been making great firearms for many years. I also appreciate the fact that they are manufactured in New Hampshire which is where my family and i have been vacationing for 2 generations. I know like many americans the people there are very passionate about their firearms so the workmanship must be amazing.

You can not go wrong with that rifle for sure. 06' is also a fine choice of caliber. A friend of mine had a Ruger in 338 for Alaskan game and it was a real fine firearm. The only thing you might want to think about is weather you would may want it in a stainless/synthetic...???

I prefer the 7 Mag over the 30-06, much better ballistics to it and it will allow you to hunt pretty much all game in North America. That being said, the 30-06 is a great cartridge that has taken countless animals.

The M77 is a fine rifle that most people gloss over. Great actions, good finish, and accurate ... you can't ask for much more out of a rifle. I would also suggest that you take a look at the CZ's as well. Another great rifle that most people overlook.

I try my best to stay away from Stainless Steel rifles because no matter how good of a bit you have you can not cut it. Instead stainless rips apart creating tons of burrs and jagged edges. Of course with time, work, or just proper break in this isn't a problem, but I am lazy.

I'm glad you said "pretty much" here. Altho I'm sure a 7mm would kill one, I sure wouldn't go after a big brownie with one. In fact many guides up here won't allow anything smaller than a 30 cal for brown bear. For good reason. But I've seen a 10' brownie slammed to the ground and never flinch from one round from an 30-06. Then I've seen one run like hell from a well placed shoulder shot from a 338 WM.

I personally like the 7.62 myself. I mean .308 sorry. but you didnt ask my opinion on caliber anywhere on this thread.

That is a nice looking rifle. I don't know anything about it but it looks nice.

Yep, that part is always funny to me. Sometimes it can be a complete mystery. Same as with engines, there is no replacement for displacement.

Yeah I am bad about giving my opinion whether someone asks for it or not

It's just me, hope y'all don't find it too offensive.
