Default Tire size for 2004 TJ

My wife has a 09 Rubicon but her sister has a 2004 Jeep Wrangler TJ. She is in desperate need of tires but would like to do rims at the same time to give it a beefier look. She doesn't want a lift kit nor can she afford one and only drives on the pavement. What is the biggest tire and rim combo that would fit on a stock TJ? I was thinking 31X10.50/15's on 15X8 rims. Would that work?

I'm pretty sure that's close to, if not the same, as my set-up before my lift, I'm just not sure on my rim width. The only problem I had was the inside of the right front tire would rub on the sway bar, but that was only at full turn, and it barely rubbed. As long as you get the right offset on the rim, or get wheel spacers, you should be fine.

That is basically the dimensions of the factory Rubicon tires. Though they are on 16 inch wheels. You are going to rub a little with factory wheel offsets like the poster above mentioned. Either get some washers or different wheels.

She is on a very limited budget so we are probably going to get some basic American Racing rims such as the outlaws. I can get her into a setup for under a grand brand new. I'm not sure what the backspacing will be on these compared to stock.

I would search on ebay for set of rubi wheels and tires (03-06). If you can still find some, they would be in the 700 range complete. Those should fit fine with very minimal to no rubbing.

Yep. We run 31x10.50R15's on my daughter's TJ and they do fine.
