That statement is incorrect^^^ By direct grounding from the mount I am grounded to the entire jeep including the frame. Running a wire from the antenna mount to the jeep frame would not be an improvement but the same depending on the length of the ground wire as someone posted above it could affect reception.

I mounted mine on top of the light using an "L" bracket and running the antenna wire thru the light stantion, ground strap, works fine

I hope I am not sounding naive, but isn't the 3rd brake light grounded? Couldn't you tie in to the negative wire on your 3rd brake light?

Just curious.

The CB antenna needs the most DIRECT lowest resistance ground you can get, so it's not beneficial to rely on the third brake light stalk, having a direct chassis ground !!

Sort of. The third brake light wire carries both the positive and ground because the the bracket nor the tail gate are grounded because the gate pivots on plastic or Teflon washers. You need to run at least a #12 wire preferably a #10 ground from the antenna mount as close to the screw base as possible and then run it to a verified ground inside the Jeep.

The tailgate is grounded but some say it isn't a good ground, I can't find anything to support this but a lot of people say it because they heard it from someone else. I swung the gate a bunch of times and didn't have any bad ground issues BUT just in case i ran a 10 gage ground wire 12" long from the gate to the frame through the wire bundle. So I'll never have to prove the theory of the bad ground tailgate.

Been through some horrible rain here in NC. Took apart the tire carrier and 3rd brake light, still no water leaking in. Successful mod c/w.

Default Very cheap and still working with no problems.

1 year 7 months. No rust, no leaks, no grounding send/recieve issues.
