Default Advice on getitng both a ham and CB antenna cable through 2012 JK tailgate grommets

Got the arizona rocky road dual mounts and I'm ready to drill through the grommets in the tailgate to get the ham and CB antenna cables through. Both cables have the mini UHF connectors that should push through a 5/16" hole in the grommet. I had been thinking I’d put the left side cable through the left side grommet where the tail light wiring goes, but it’s a very deep rubber plug with the tail light wiring solid in the center. I’m hesitant to drill through it in fear of damaging the wire in the plug or the wiring inside the tailgate to the tail light and the harness. So now I’m thinking about routing both cables through the grommet on the right (passenger) side that looks large enough to handle both cables. That looks like it will work better but will be a tight fit.

I’m just wondering if anyone has experience getting two cables into the tailgate grommets that you might share before I actually drill. I have a hard top so I don’t want to run a cable between the rear window rubber and tailgate like I’ve seen pictures of with a soft top. I want to use the grommet(s).

I installed both cables through that grommet, But my cables didn't have the connectors on... those I installed after I routed the wire through the tail gate....etc.
I didn't have pre-built cables..

I went through both left and right grommets for Ham and CB. Like the previous post, I had no ends on the cable while doing the wiring. The connectors were soldered on after everything was test fit. As for the grommets, I pushed them out and poked a hole in them, no drilling. Fed the wire through and reinstalled the grommets.

thanks for the info. I think I'll try getting them both through the thinner right side grommet with the mini uhf connectors on the cables. I'll put one through first, then the cable is smaller than the connector which will leave more room for the second connector to get through. I have the cooltech gate mounts that I'm not going to use, but their instructions say with a little soap the connectors should go through a 5/16" hole in the grommet. I'll use some black silicone to seal it up when I'm done.

I put mine through the same grommet as the third brake light wires. Again with no end on it. The through the loom that carries the power lock and bake light past the hinge, up the side all the way to the center console. HTH

I got them both and a ground wire through the passenger side grommet tonight fine. Drilled a couple of holes with it in the tailgate (holes don't turn out to be nearly as big as the bit - so I kept going to a larger bit). Then I cut away the ligament between the holes which made it a lot easier to get the mini UHF connectors wrapped in electrical tape with a tail to pull with through. With the two cables and the 10 ga ground wire through the grommet, everything fit nice and tight. Worked very well.

that would work too, but having some of the material cut out might be better for the two cables and the ground wire.
