It's running right next to the power cable to the unit and I don't have the coax clear at all in fact I used all but about 3 inches of it... The guy from cobra said I can just turn down the warning level and it should be fine... But now I'm noticing that the SWR is up sometimes nd normal at other times

I've been having the same problem ever since I got the unit... Mine works on and off when the jeep is off. Sometimes it'll shoot me the antenna warning and sometimes it won't. But when the engine is on, as soon as I key the mic, it'll give me the antenna warning.

If the SWR changes it could be because of surroundings. Always calibrate in a clear area. You don't want anything within 50 feet or more if possible. I use an open field. If it still changes in an open area you may have a bonding issue.

What's a bonding issue?

It's ensuring all major metal parts are interconnected with ground straps and to the ground itself (body, frame, etc). Make sure the antenna base is well grounded.

Thank you.... The guy at cobra electronics said that I should ground the unit itself to since it's just screwed into plastic... But my antenna is grounded directly to the frame.... Thanks for the explanation!
