CB Channels and such
I am almost through with my install of a Cobra 75WXST on my 2012 JKU and have not used a CB much since the 70's and early 80's. Is there a preferred "Jeep Channel"? I know 19 is the standard interstate / trucker channel, but do different regions or Jeepers or whatever have a favorite?
Also, I must add that I ordered my whole kit (Tag bracket, CB, fire stik, dash mount for mic, etc) from Cool Tech or whatever their name is that someone mentioned on here and they have the best written and illustrated instructions I've ever received with a product. I was pleasantly surprised! Got the antenna and mount work done last night, just got to run the electrical connection. I'm leaving the box under the passenger seat for now and got to find somewhere to tie in to electrical.

I've never hear of a general "Jeep" channel, but many Jeep clubs and trails will designate a channel they commonly use.
For the most part, you'll want to avoid 9 (emergency), 17 & 19 (truckers).
The more clear the channel, the more efficient the communication. (improved signal to noise)

Well, I got it all installed except electrical. Box is mounted at top of passenger footwell on passenger side. Trying to decide if o want to run through firewall to battery or find a fuse block or something to tie into.
You'll figure out rather quickly that Channel 6 is used constantly by a bunch of old mouth breathers from the south with a lot of power going through their CB rigs. They never say anything of value it seems, one guy must repeat "bye, bye, bye bye bye . . ." over and over. Must be his transcendental mantra.
I contacted the FCC about them and they said that the CB channels, though regulated by the FCC, is rarely policed and is basically open range now for anything and anyone.

That way its less likely to get interference from teh rest of the electrical stuff in the Jeep.
Hope this helps.
We used to use 16 back in the day. 4x4=16, elegantly logical. It seemed to be used by a lot of folks, but then it kind of fell out of favor as many retreated into their own subgroups. It used to be fun if you saw another bunch of Jeeps heading down the highway and often you could raise them on 16 and find out who's going where to wheel. Sometimes air chatter would make a channel move necessary, but it worked pretty good much of the time. It seems today a lot of people want to reinvent the wheel and obsess over what channel to use and waste a half hour discussing it before the run.
Yup, our group here in Martin, Palm beach county use channel 4 but the idiots on channel 6 make it useless as they are running so much power that they bleed over in to channel 4. While trail riding last weekend we all were on 4 with 15 Jeeps spread out 300 yards, could not hear the lead Jeep due to the channel 6 trash. I installed a dual band ham radio and have been a ham since 1986 (N4UNT) I know everyone use's CB's as they are cheap but feel that sooner or later most Jeep clubs will become hams and switch over to a much better radio.
