CB install: Will this work?

Default CB install: Will this work?

I'm thinking of getting a Cobra 75. I want the cleanest install I can get, and would like to be able to hear the the radio even with the top down on the interstate.

Here's my question: I have the non-Infinity sound system, which means I have some empty holes in my roll bar. Is there any reason why I can't route the sound from the CB into some regular stereo shallow mount speakers to fill the roll bar holes? That way I wouldn't have to cut the foam padding around the bar to hide the stock CB speaker.

That would work.

If you have an AUX jack on your radio, you can just plug the 75 into that. Although you wouldn't be able to listen to the radio/CD while using the CB.

Other than that, I'm sure you'd be able to use the empty holes in the sound bar. I'd suggest checking what the ohm rating etc is for the external speaker (should say in the Cobra 75 manual somewhere... 8ohms I think) and go from there.

Edit: If you do go that route, make sure you take some pics and post a write up!

The holes are for hard tops. As long as you have a soft top it will work. That is where I mount my CB and Ham radio speaker (JVC 4" rounds). The speaker on driver side is wired to the Ham radio and the passenger side is wired to my CB. I did not connect them into the stereo so I could run all three systems simultaneously or run them individually.

Good idea. In my experience, plugging into the stereo aux jack makes for huge feedback wailing when keying up. Works great for listening but not participating in conversations.

I will. It may be a while before I do it though.

OK, I thought the empty holes were where speakers would have gone. And I do have a soft top. It sounds like you've pretty much done exactly what I want to do, only sans HAM.

Do you have any advice on speaker size or selection?

Also, how did you plug the smaller holes in the top of the roll bar, above the larger diameter holes?

TIA

If I had to do it over again I would have bought different speaker. I would probable go with something like these since they would fit almost flush in the bar. They are tweeters may not be the best but would look clean.

Mine stick out about 1/2", Give me a few and I will take a pic with the cell phone
