Default Cobra 75 problem?

I installed my Cobra75 and went to tune the swr. I would key the mic and the airbag warning light would come on. I let off and it goes out. Sometimes it will set the abs warning lights as well. I thought I would recheck the ground on the battery. When I unhooked the ground wire the radio stayed on. It did turn off when I unplugged the antenna wire. Is there a short in the radio or any other ideas?

That's an interesting one. How old is the battery?

Battery is 2 weeks old. I did another experiment today. I left the antenna connected and hooked the power leads up to a 13 volt plug in transformer. Keyed the mic and the airbag light came on. A short in the radio to the antenna connection maybe?

What is your antenna setup and how are your wires/cables running?

Running a fire flex coax with a fire ring to an expedition one mount, a quick connector and a 4 foot fire stick. Cable is running down the passenger side, under the door sill to under the glove box.

What is your SWR reading? Also be sure to double check your fire ring install. Make sure it looks like this diagram.

Fire ring is set up right. Swr is 1.2 on ch1 1.4 on ch 40. Tested for continuity between antenna bracket and a bolt in the frame and it came out good.

Fixed! (I think). I took the door sill pannel off and re routed the coax under the carpet further away from the wiring in the same area. No more airbag or check engine lights. Rechecking swr in the morning.

That's what I did to fix my original install. No airbag light, but the wipers would cycle with every mic key.

Excellent...that was going to be my next suggestion. Just wanted to confirm a few things...troubleshooting step by step over the Internet.

The coax Firestik uses is not the best quality and tends to be a little "leaky". The JK's electronics are very sensitive to stray RF.

Glad you have it worked out!!
