Yes, being that some 2m mobiles can put out as much as 75 watts or so they will create some heat especially if you get to tx'ing for awhile. Maybe not yours seeing that you said it was an older one. But you definitely want to get some air to it anyway. What "old" model Yaesu is it?

I'm a tech class KB6PAK I have an ICOM IC208H dual band, will be installing it in the JK on Sunday.

I am a new member to the site and I am also a HAM. My callsign is W2FCP and I am located in Clovis, NM. I am working on installing my radios in the JK, I have only had it 12 days now and the weather has not been very good since. This morning I installed my two ARR mounts and my ATAS-120 and Comet CA-2x4SR. Hopefully it warms up a bit more this week so I can run the power and mount the FT-857 and APRS radio.

ID be interested in seeing how you are mounting the ATAS antenna to the Jeep.
Also wondering where the two ARR mount are mounted?
As well as the Comet antenna.
Iv got one and like it so far.
