I'll be doing Field Day and JOTA this year.

Anyone in the Orlando area I'll be there on the 21st of March.

73 to all (it's 73 not 73's as in Seven Three not seventy three.) I got an ear full from an old timer one day while working symplex on 2m at 145.52 it goes back to when there was only CW (Morse Code)

Welcome Victor, if you get your jeep before this weekend there's a loosely organized run this weekend that will end up at Sierra Peak to check out the new SotaUSA.com DXpedition happening up there.

Interested parties can get run details in the SoCal staging area: https://www.jk-forum.com/forums/socal-45/anyone-up-sunday-3-22-09-run-77523/

Congrats for sure...!!! What are your plans with the FT-897? Do you have an antenna and shack set up at home? I know lots of HAMS only have mobile stations, but if you want to really see what that 897 is capable of...hook it up to a full sized dipole or yagi. As a new general, you'll want to....
73, Good DX, and HAVE FUN...!!!

Thanks everyone.

So far I have the FT-897 running two antennas: ATAS120A for HF and a Diamond NR770 for VHF/UHF. It will stay in the Jeep most of the time, but I do have a 25A power supply and the MFJ945E tuner when I take it out of the vehicle. I just need to build me an G5RV style antenna for the backyard.

I have the FT817 for portable QRP with the z-817 tuner. I have a small solar panel that I kept from another project along with a SLA battery. This will make my HFPack.

What I'd like to do is to use my VX-8r HT and the 897 as a repeater, but I need to find a reasonable cost effective (in other words cheap) way to retransmit. I think it would be something fun to be on uhf/vhf and retransmit on HF.
