Default Help me choose: Cobra 75WXST or Uniden Pro520xl

Hi-

I'd like to add a CB to my 2013 JKU. A local club has a good deal for either the COBRA 75WXST or UNIDEN PRO520XL. I've done a bunch of research, but I'm wondering if anyone has a preference. I'm looking for something that works well, but is easy to install and live with. Thanks!

I have the Uniden. Nice and basic - all you'll need for the trail. You will hardly ever use it when you're not offroading, and when you are you'll just be on one or two channels. Don't overthink it. Either one will be fine.

I've had both them.. Cobra is nice for "all in one" size.. nice hand feeling mic..
but I prefer Uniden.. small and basic as said PG-JKU..

I have the Cobra 75 in my '13 JKU. Works fine, but I did add the external speaker. It did take me quite a few hours to mount everything, but there is nothing in the way.

The cobra mic is big and clumsy but if you have bigger hands its not that big of a deal. An external speaker is a must and can be had form $10. I have had my cobra for 3 years and it has served me well but as soon as I install a custom cage I will be scrapping this radio for a full sized unit I can mount on the cage.

If I could do it again I would of gone with the midland 75-822, it fits much better in the hand and can detach and hook up to a battery pack for portable use.

The bad thing about the midland is there's no display light on unless you press the light button and then the light goes back out after a few seconds. In other words driving at night you can't see any of the display unless you hit the button and then only for a few seconds; the cobra from what I understand has a display light that stays on.

I have that Uniden. It's a good unit, the speaker's loud and clear. No matter what you get, make sure you're tuning the antenna with an SWR meter for optimal performance.

Another vote for the cobra. Installation is easy, its the tuning of the antenna that is a pain.

I would go with the Uniden or other similar unit. I've got a Cobra 19DX that I'll eventually install and replace the stock mic with a power mic.
Check out the link to my 2 meter radio installation if you're looking to mount the radio out of the way. I might try squeeze the CB in next to it.

Don't think the only place you would use your radio is on the trail. It serves it's purpose in other places as well. Some get hooked and make it a hobby.
