I'm a noob myself but have been doing a ton of research on CB's. You can find Jeep/Off-road complete antenna kits if you do a web search.

I'm not sure what your thinking of with a L-Shaped mount. There are a few things to consider. Your best off putting your mount where the antenna won't be sandwiched between the spare and tail gate. I would try to fab something like the Arizona Rocky Road JK antenna mount that is higher up than the common teraflex one. A hood mount would give you better reception if your up to mounting in the front (preferably away from the FM antenna). It's best to have 1/3 of the antenna above the roof line. The higher the mount the better. The longer the antenna the better.

The antenna mount will need to have a stud mount. Click HERE to see what I'm talking about.

The antenna cable is PL-259. There is a more rare PL-258 that is used for dual antennas that you don't want. There is also options for getting a no-ground antenna (with about a 10%-15% decrease in performance). Those no ground units have there own special cable that you need to use.

Hope that info helps some.
