I did not know a better way to say it, mine got mad, lifted its leg by, disconnecting the sway bar, messed up the throttle, had a miss and disconnected from the yaw controller ecu.

Good thing I knew my jeep is a male.

The fix was lots of bonding and a external choke on the coax for the common mode. There is a post somewhere in the forum, but I cant find it right now. I can transmit full power 100w on all HF bands. It took lots of work to get there.

3. Good idea, I am trying to figure a way to attach a bonding strap or ? to the mount, any ideas?

4. Fun is what it is about, I haven't had a mobile HF rig since 1970 when I had my SWAN 350 in a Chrysler and a hustler on the rear bumper. I was so thrilled when I was able to work DX from I-5 in Washington, Oregon and California. Daytime 15 meters to Australia and the far east while driving was pretty exciting.

Since then just about everytime I tried HF mobile was a disaster so I gave in to VHF. But now thanks to availability of torroids things look a little better.
Search the forum for a post of mine that explains all the work I did to make HF not a disaster. (right now I cant find it) Other than the pics of your mount I am not familiar with it, so I don't have a good idea on how to bond it.

Here is the post by goldtr8. It describes my version of "How did the Jeep get mad?"

Enjoy.

It seems to be working pretty good so far, but I plan to do some bonding as required.

Pulling this one from the catacombs... :-)

Anyone using a Hustler 1000 antenna? How does it work?

Does the 706 have an internal tuner like the 703 does or is it better to use an external one?

I'm considering a used 706 MKIIG. The 7000 looks great but too much money.

The 706 does not have an internal tuner. You might be better with a tuner at the antenna base anyway for a non-resonant mobile whip. Depends on your antenna choice.

Thanks! I saw the Hustlers and those coils will not mix well with branches on the trails. :-)

How does the LT hold?

Icom sells one that pairs with the Icom tuner but that thing is way expensive. Any other good options?

The Icom whip and tuner are a bit overpriced. It's basically just a non-resonant whip. You could get most any wide range "remote" tuner and a 102" stainless whip for much of the same effect. Maybe trim the whip so it's resonant for 10m and let the tuner work on the other bands.

Great looking setup. I have a 706 I plan to instal in my JK as well. Giving me some good ideas here. I'm also considering a position under the drivers seat for the rig. Already have the remote kit for it.

Probably do a mount near the cowl for 2m/70cm, but I'm just not sure what I'll do for HF yet. I don't anticipate it being a tremendous performer. I'll probably just grab a few hamsticks to take with me when I go camping and stuff, but I at least need to find a good mount location. Yours looks quite clean!

I found a MKIIG that seems in great condition. Now need to get to the tuner and antenna.

What remote tuners should I take a look at?

I have a manual screwdriver antenna used with the 703, but it's not suitable for mobile use unless I am parked. So, will also look at the LT. kd4ao's setup looks great indeed.
