My Cobra 75 CB and antenna install
For the folks with the all in one kit from cool tech, did they send it to you in 2 boxes? I received one box on friday but no antenna and no gate bracket. Should I be expecting this to come in a separate box? or should I give them a call...
The other thing, I plan to put the dash connecting part in the center between the shifter and the storage box. Would it be better to extend the actual 5 prong CB wire? or move the box closer and extend the 12v wire instead.
EDIT: the other thing, do any of you know where I can find a cap or the correct name for it? Basically want to put something on the connector that you attach the hand held part to when the cb is not connected so dust and water doesn't get in as easy. Seems it will get messy quick when doorless/topless

One thing I've noticed about most of the antenna mounts posted in the forum is people don't seem to be using a spring between the mount and the antenna. I suppose many people don't live or wheel in/around a lot of brush OR there's enough flex in the antennae so a spring isn't needed. Any thoughts? Sorry if I hijacked the thread HG97TJ. I like the install you did - very clean.
OP - nice clean install!
Doc
So I managed to get the antenna installed before it started raining way to much to be working on the Jeep. Problem is the ground... I got the all in one kit from tech cool but the circle ring for the ground wire, the instructions say to mount it on the gatemount but the hole is smaller then the part that feeds through the stainless attachment point, and is also smaller then the threaded part of the antenna.
Am I missing something here? or did they just attach the wrong size of ring connector on the end of the ground wire.

EDIT: Vice Versa actually, just looked at my pics
The end you're talking about:

So one more question. Install went smooth. Got the antenna tuned and my meter says I am at 1.15 - 1.2 for both. So I am happy with that. The instructions say to run the ground for the unit to the battery. I generally ground off the closest bolt that will provide ground. But I didn't want to screw it up so I ran the ground all the way to the battery as that is were I have my Positive ran to.
Problem is that I get random shreeking that happens every time I do something electric. Like turn on/off my headlights, dome light etc... Could this be from the + and - being run to the battery?

If you haven't already switched your ground to test it out, I suggest you do and post the results back here so we all know what happened! Good luck!
Thanks for the reply BLK08JK, I did switch the ground to a bolt that is in the lower part of the dash by the shifter. It seems to have helped substantially so I only get a very small eek when turning headlights on. I haven't been able to check the range as no one replied to me on the channels but driving around town having it scanning I did managed to pick up a couple conversations that did come through pretty clear. No idea how far they were as they did not reply once I asked.
Realistically what kinda of range is capable with this unit? I have the 4' firestick from cool tech and the antenna is about a good foot and some above the roof line.
