Default Radar Detectors

anybody using a radar detector in the jk? I use a valentine one had it since my last vehicle... I know the police are there from like a mile or so. Definately worth the investment if anybody has a lead foot or just wanna know where they are.

I use my Escort Solo S2; same unit I run on the motorcycle. Battery powered, easy to move between rigs, but not as good as the Valentine One in my wife's Escape. That's a first class detector.

How are they about worthless? One speeding ticket and it would have paid for itself. The Valentine even tells me which direction they are coming from.

I dont drive with the radar on. When I track a speeder, I turn it on, and get the speed. By then its to late for the speeder.

They definitely work if the radar is on constantly.
The other good thing is that if you're coming up on a place where someones running radar (constantly on or instant on/off), as they target other vehicles, you may pick up the signal and get a chance to slow down before you become the target.

If you happen to be the "target" of instant on, and you're speeding, the radar detector is just letting you know you're getting a ticket...lol

So I would give you about a 50/50 chance. But then again those odds could be better or worse depending on the state/town/jurisdiction you're driving in.

Exactly, Radar detectors are not very beneficial if you don't know how to use one.
I use a Whistler Pro-78, not the best but I have been saved many many times by using it smart. It is an excellent detector for the price. The msrp is somewhere around $230 but it is easy to find it for around $140 from an authorized deal and cheaper from a unauthorized. Not as good as the V1 for sure but it has nice features and for 1/3 the price it has about 2/3 the performance.
