So where have you been mounting the CB's?
Anyone have some advice for mounting the antenna to the spare tire carrier? I have a fab fours rear bumper and there is already a 1/2 hole mount behind the spare tire ( I didn't want to mar up my bumper if I didn't need to )...do I have to sand down some of the powder coat for the ground/ so the bolt gets good connection? I bought the bolt that has the rubber spacers and the connectors that you clamp the wires into, that the antenna also screws into.
Also is there any tricks that you guys know of to get better reception? The guy I bought my c.b. from was giving me shit because I didn't want to mount it on my hood...He said I could get 30-40 miles reception if I mounted it on my hood, but because I'm stubborn and think it looks like shit, I'm going to mount it on my tire carrier. He said it probably wont work but from the looks of it you guys seem to be fine??? I told the guy I didn't know shit about c.b.s and he just stared at me, after a while I bought the cobra 75 hopefully it gets the job done lol! D and R C.B. Radios in Clackamas OR, has the worst customer service ever.

There are a handful of company's fabricating spare tire mounts. This is called a compromise option. It won't work well but it will work. The guy who advised to mount the ant on the hood is correct. But no one wants to look at their antenna swinging in the wind in front of them while they drive. I use the Arizona rocky road antenna mount for three reasons. It works well, it looks good, and it gets the base of the antenna above the tub and the steel belts in your tire. This will go a long ways in improving your antenna performance. Yes scrape the mount to bare metal. You need a good electrical bond with the body of the vehicle. The antenna is only half (or a fraction) of the entire system. The body of the vehicle is the remaining part of the equation. The more metal under the antenna and the less metal around the antenna the better. It's not about mass it's about area. Hope this helps a bit.
My CB is small so I mounted it inside the console. I put an externally powered speaker in the knee blocker panel ( ordered one from my Passport 9500ci) works great. Mounted a Firestick on the pass side of my Rampage rear bumper. I can turn on the radio, leave the mic wire out and close the armrest. I also ran a PA up front behind the bumper

Another above the mirror job. I started off by mounting my HR-2510 above the mirror simply because there was really no other place for the large beast. I wanted somewhere it was easy to use the controls and read the display. Then came the face for the Yaesu FTM-350AR. I searched and searched for a suitable location. In the end, I decided it had to go on top of the HR. Now I have my radio "stack" within eyeshot and easy to control.

As a newbie while I'm really liking this setup is there anywhere that talks about how to, in detail, run the wires for the antenna and how to safely run and connect to the battery? Thanks in advance...[/QUOTE]
Try going here. It may not be the actual set up you run but shows you some of the tricks. This is where I started just so happens I had the same CB.

Yep, that write up is really it in a nutshell. I did some extras like running 4 gauge wire from the battery to a distribution block in the cabin because I knew I would want to power more things later, and covering exposed wires in plastic wire loom. But that write up definitely covers the fundamentals.
I screwed mine into the radio speaker bridge on the roll bar. I used the dome light wire for power (with an inline fuse) and the ground in the dome/speaker module for the ground and I mounted the antenna in a factory hole in the body. Works well, but I'm missing my dome light and the CB will shut off about 30 seconds after the truck is turned off. I'd like to find a separate always-hot wire for the CB and dome to share. Is there any type of always hot wire in the JK like there is behind the glove in the TJ?
Thanks!

Thanks!
