I really do not want to install a permanent CB radio in my JRU. I am leaning towards a handheld Midland 75-822 with a "Little Will" Wilson Magnet Mount antenna. Anyone running these, and if so, how do they perform? I'll be in the Sierra's mostly.

I use the Midland handheld, but us a hybrid version. I have a 4' firestix mounted to my rear bumper and the coaxial ran all the way up and under the front seat. When I need the CB I take it out of the console, plug the power into the cig lighter, and the coaxial into the female end under my driver seat and I am good to go. Takes me about 1 minute tops to go from no CB in sight to fully functioning CB and I love it. Also if my spotter needs to use it I can attach the battery pack and the midland is now portable...

Win-Win in my eyes....

Default My Solution

Like you I didn't want to leave a CB in the Jeep at all times. Not that many people want CB's these days but there is always someone out there with sticky fingers. At the same time I didn't want one of those hand help types either. So, what I did was wire a CB like normal and added some quick disonnects right begind the fuze. That way, I can dosconnct the CB when not on the trails. It takes all of about 3 minutes to put it in or take it out. Just giving you anopther option to think about.

This is what I did. I didn't want my CB visible.

One more question JKgrrl.....do you have range issues with the handheld type? I live/wheel in the Sierra's and Ive heard mixed reviews on the range when in the hills.

My Cobra 75 gets out good. Long range commo in the mountains is difficult no matter what type of radio you go with.

I use the Midland 75-822 as well. Currently in handheld mode until I get an antenna mount built.
