There isn't any reason why you shouldn't research other options. But, if you can eventually buy an auto dimming mirror w/bluetooth embedded in it that plugs directly into MyGig for about $250, why wouldn't you wait and see if it would work? Theoretically, it should. There are Chrysler vehicles being built now with MyGig that are connected to a mirror as I've described above. Sebring, Nitro, 300, whatever.....if the female connection on the back of the MyGig is the same (I can't believe it wouldn't be), you ought be able to take applicable parts intended for other vehicles and use them with the Wrangler when you have MyGig.

He may well be right. But, what are the specific reasons he is saying it won't work. The parts people at the dealer I am buying from say it makes sense. They just don't have much info on MyGig yet for any vehicle. Another dealer I stopped at says it shouldn't be a problem. I'm not saying it will definitely work, but I sure would be nice to know specifically why it won't.

I spent some time talking with the Parts Guy and a service tech where I got my 2007 Jeep.
Here is what we are going to try.
I have seen how you add the Mopar U-Free Hands Connect to a Stock DC car.
All of the buttons are in the head so it will work like this. It is the same stereo that goes in the 2007 Sebring and they can use the stereo mounted controls…
I ordered the Mopar part that would have gone in some 97 or older.
We are going to strip the wires and merry it up to the back of the head unit. All I need is the modulate and mic I'll run the mic up the A Pillar and attach it to the Roll Bar. The Modulator will sit behind the stereo.
I like the idea of the stock look of keeping my Jeep looking clean and original
I'm also adding just the Cobra CB behind the dash with just the mic with a built in volume, squelch and tuner showing on the mic and an External Speaker to the roll bar.
We will keep you posted and show pics of the installl as soon as we get it running.
I just bought the new Samsung Blackjack and I want to use it with U-connect like in my wife’s KJ. My wife has a Pink Razor and my 14 year old daughter has a pink Sliver we like using the U-Connect Hands Free feature.

Has anyone confirmed that the Uconnect will work/ can be modifed to work??
I have an 07 Rubicon. I purchased a Mopar Unconnect kit; part #82207853AF. Today; I uninstalled my radio to find that the plug is different on my radio than what the the Uconnect harness has. Is there an adapter for this??
Also, this Uconnect unit came with a button/control pad and an external speaker. Is a connection through the radio even needed? Will this work with just the external speaker and the supplied mic? I'm thinking just splice somewhere for current; use the provided mic and speaker and it should work. If the Unconnect needs the harness for power; then I'm wrong.
You thoughts guys??
Thanks

I can confirm that Uconnect will not work in a JK w/MyGig simply by adding DC parts from a Nitro or Sebring. I have invested the money and done this, however it appears that the MyGig requires an initialization signal to be sent by the ECU across the CAN bus.
Installing the hardware alone will NOT turn on the Uconnect or Voice Command functionality in the MyGig.
There may be a solution coming that will enable this type of solution in the not too distant future, but it is not available yet. At the moment, I have a ~$300.00 auto dimming mirror and there are a lot of simpler/cheaper ways to get there. If anyone is interested, I can provide a parts list for everything I installed.

You guys crack me up.
I don't know how many times we have to say it won't work - but I definitely give it up to you all for trying.
I know I sure would like it to work too, but lets face facts: It doesn't work.
Frankly, Uconnect sucks. My JGC has it, and it stinks. Whenever I talk to my wife on it its very tin-like and it gets bad delays sometimes. My cheapo logitech headset works much better, and works wherever I am - inside or outside the car.
But again, I admire your drive..kudos.

As far as the wrangler is concerned, a 'stock' looking & working solution will be figured out, and I can tell you is really not all that far off. There are some very talented people working on this and similar projects. As with any new high tech product, there are ways to unlock features that are not initially available. The MyGig and or related JK computers are no exception.
As JK owners we are not alone in this effort, much has been done by LX platform owners doing everything from trying to unlock power from their electronically crippled engines to enabling or adding features to their onboard entertainment systems. Nitro owners are also working on similar tasks. While everything they are doing and trying is directly applicable to the JK platform, the information they are learning and sharing is helping those of us looking at the JK platform make great strides.
The additional features we want are coming, it is just a matter of time.
I also have used the uConnect in the JGC, but the upgraded version in the Nitro and Sebring is much better.

I mean those folks who did the Freegig and such I'm sure will have something at some point.
I agree 100% its all for a good cause...which is why I said kudos for those who are fighting the good fight.
It just still makes me laugh though
I have this cliped to the sun visor. Works Great, and costs less than $100.
