Yaesu VX-8R / 8DR
Well I went ahead and picked one up. Probably should have just asked on a more general sense if anyone was running Yaesu portables and how they've been holding up especially in rainy / outdoor areas. Thanks for chiming in.
This little guy is amazing, if you can get someone to open it up (for all frequencies) you'll be glad you did. It's also water proof to more than 10 feet depth.
I have and use the VX8r, I have added the GPS unit and the bluetooth( not much good). I have not modified the radio to add more bands, but I do use it with APRS.
I use the RT Sytems progam and cable to upolad data and it works fantastic.
let me know if you need more info.

FWIW, I m not running a VX8 but i v got a VX6 as a radio in mine and it seems to do a good job.
Kinda of a PIA to work in the dark but otherwise its fine.
I m using a Diamond K 412 mount with a Larson 2/70 antenna on the hood.
