it raised it by $1000 because it probably switched the tranny to automatic instead of a manual. they don't affer remote start on the 6spd

Yep. That was installed. It lookd way to complicated for me and the install shop had to call tech support a few times as the 07 and up electrical systems are quite different than 06 and earlier. I was told I got a hell of a deal but who knows.

$330's not too bad I guess. I might look in to it.

Yeah I made the sliders too, with help. They were definately inspired by the great Shrockworks. One of the Shrockworks guys was almost fooled by them.

I've installed plenty of remote starters on manual vehicles. We use to use magnetic switches either on the shift linkage (if externally actuated) or directly on the shifter. You just epoxy those badboys in the right location and voila. Car won't start via remote unless switch is engaged and it will only engage in neutral. There was only 1 case where we had to use 4 mag switches (at $35/switch at that) at the positions where the car was IN gear and the relay was simply reversed and would only start of the switches WEREN'T engaged. That was in a 4X4 Toyota with a shifter that had all internal linkage and no room for it on the shifter itself in the neutral positions thanks to the bodylift and custom console the owner had. It takes a little tinkering to get right, but it was the only safe way we would install remote starters on manuals. On the tech side, all of our installs were custom jobs so if you aren't familiar with wiring relays and dealing with simple fab using plastics... I'd take it to a shop. I don't even know if it's feasible in a JK > I'm just throwing out suggestions.

Default 2008 Mopar Remote Start Kit

Does anyone have any experience installing the Mopar Remote Start Kit for the 2008's? It does not involve any splicing or cutting, but does need the dealer to program the computer with the Starscan tool.

I have the automatic transmission, which is required, but don't have power door locks. I have been told conflicting information (by two different Jeep dealers) on whether or not power door locks are needed for the kit.

The kit includes a hood safety switch, bracket, and wiring, but my Jeep is already wired for the switch under the hood. It also includes two new remote keys, an antenna, and a new module that goes around the ignition switch.

Does anyone know if in fact power door locks are needed? Where the antenna gets mounted(the wire harness is only about a 20 inches long, so it must be close to the ignition module)? And finally, if the unit can be installed and then taken to dealer for the programming? Thanks.

I just had my MOPAR remote start installed today at Farrish Jeep in Fairfax. I wanted to do it myself but the instructions refer to the 2008 service manual several times and currently that manual is not available to general population. In addition, I knew I would have to get the SKIS initialized anyway. I am sorry I can’t be of much help my 2008 has the door locks, as for the antenna module location, it is on a short leash 20 inches max from the WCM so I would assume to maximize the receive distance they have placed it high in the dash, most likely above the radio.

I can report that is does work great and the antenna module greatly extends the range at which you can lock, unlock or start the Jeep.

Big Al, I'm in the DC area too, if you don't mind, how much did Farrish charge for the install?

Does anyone know if the new remote start will work on the 07s? I really like the idea of having the remote start on the keyfob with everything else, as opposed to having a second fob dangling from my key chain.

SaharaBlackNo1, the install was $251.25 at Farrish. In addition, there is a MOPAR Remote Start for the 07, check the Accessories link under the “FOR OWNERS” tab at Jeep.com. I believe there are two parts you need for a 07 the “Remote Start” and the “Installation Kit”, but do not quote me on that, that was originally, what I tried to order for my Jeep but it turned out I only needed one parts kit which was very complete and I think a combination of the two.
