Has anyone figured out how to safely disable the Electronic Data Recorder in the JK?

I was told years ago that a large magnet placed near a hard drive would effectively cause it to crash.
Whether or not this is true I do not know. But, it stands to reason if it will crash a hard drve then it should do the same to the EDR.

My current research suggests the data is stored within the ACM (air bag control module). This makes things more complicated if you wish to retain the function of the airbags.

No doubt this probably stems from the recent fact that Uncle Sam wants to make these things mandatory in all vehicles and he also wants law enforcement, insurance agencies and dealers to have unrestricted access to the information contained within it.

As far as I know there is no way to disable the unit currently.
