here is a pic showing the hole that is covered with the grommet. it has a small black tube/hose running through it. it is shown in this pic with red and white wires going through it. in the pic the black grommet has been removed was slid down the tubing a few inches.

in this pic, the hole (with grommet and tube still in place) is located at the end of the red arrow.

open the driver's side door and remove the plastic panel on the side of the dash. push the wire through the hole in the firewall about 6-8 inches and you should be able to see it, either by looking along the side of the dash, or putting your head under the dash (near the pedals) and looking up in that direction. you might have to use a wire clothes hanger to reach back in and hook it if you can see the wire, but not reach it with your hand.
i tied a loose knot in the wires about 6 inches from the end before feeding them through. it made them easier to see and gave me a spot to hook with a hanger, if i needed to do so. use a flashlight too.

I've got a new 2008 rubi ul. NO easy firewall access like the 2007. I pop the sides off the dash, poke through the insulation, and hit steel. I look from the engine side, and all steel, NO hole. Dammit. Luckily, I have an auto this time, and remembered something about a hole near the steering column. It was there, thank God. Not as easy to get wires to the passenger side behind the dash, but works. Anyway, I couldn't believe that the easy access was gone.

if your jeep has a hard top, the extra wiring goes through there... i was still able to get a coat hanger through the middle and using the duct tape method get a wire back through for my windshield mounted lights

On the Passenger side there is a big foamed-up opening that you can push a coat hanger thru to pull wires in. I have ran five or six sets of wires thru there (top right side of picture)

I've got both tops, and no opening. I used that on the 07 with no problemo, but not now.

For those with manual tranny:

Look where the green arrows point to. This is a hole filled with foam. There is the same hole on the passengers side too (no pic of other side as it's the same).
Just push something straight through these holes an pull the cables. They will show up under the cowl on the outside (yellow area on second pic).

This is where I went through the firewall. It is on the driver's side of the vehicle just behind that piece of plastic that just pops off with your fingers or maybe a flat head screwdriver. No tools were needed when I took that piece off though, it just pops right off.
