Default Installing LOCKPICK V3

I'm going to be hooking up my LOCKPICK V3 this weekend and wanted to know if anyone had some good advice for me before the install? I heard taking the MyGig out is a PITA and finding a way to shove the device somewhere inside is a tight squeeze. I also have the A/V harness I'm hoping can route into the glove box... thoughts? Thanks!

It's not too difficult.

Taking the Mygig out is as simple as can be. I assume you know how or have seen a write up on how to get the dash opened up and pull the mygig unit?

It's all plug'n play. Just plug in the V3 and harness and might as well attach an aux video/audio cable and USB while you've got it open. Running cables, like the aux and usb to the glove box is a piece of cake. You can use the usb to update your lockpick whenever that's neceessary, or attach a digital camera/device to run a slide show through your mygig.

It takes a little strategy to get all those wires behind the unit, but there's quite a bit of room for the lock pick and other harness cable to the back passenger side under the dash.

Don't forget to install and route your nav antenna if you have one and your compass in a way so it doesn't interfere with the unit when you slide it back into place.

Test it all before you button it back up, then you're good to go!

....and while you're in there, you might as well install a rearview camera if you're not planning to already. You can get one on Ebay really cheap. Simpler to install under the carpet to the rear and throu a drain plug to your bumper.

Thanks for the advice! You're right about wiring that USB during the install... I didn't think of that.

Yeah I'm familiar with taking off the dash panel (wired some LED strips recently) but haven't removed the MyGig before. My NAV antenna should already be plugged in tho, shouldn't it? So long as I don't whack anything already hooked up out of place everything should be cool I think.

Yes, you should not have to do anything with the nav. It's all pretty easy. I second the camera idea, would have been easier for me had I done it all at the same time. Feed everything to the right between the mygig and glove box. Plenty of space there. There are some good write ups on it.

I just read on the site that you need windows to update the lockpick software via USB. I'm strictly a Mac guy, no PCs. Really I just need this to unlock play DVD in motion and input NAV data when moving... the av harness was a bonus.

Plus I just saw the new CHR550 Lockpick allows full onscreen display control for iPod/iPhone/iPad via apple connector instead of composite.

Dammit... I think I may have to upgrade to that.

Unless you have a 2011 with steering wheel controls the CHR550 will be useless to you. You can not control the iPod via the touchscreen with that model. I just put in the V3 Lockpick for my 2010 with the factory Mopar iPod cable to get the most functionality. The wires will fit if you push everything over to the passenger's side of the console. I have prewired (and tested) my backup camera, but I am waiting for a dry weekend to actually mount it to the rear.

I use VMWare fusion for Mac. Install windows on your Mac and away you go.
