So I'm in the process of mirroring your install but am finding that I'm getting a lot of distortion. Here is what I have done so far
1. Dynomax entire inside box
2. Added poly fill (I've crammed it in there and had none in there and every variation in between
3. Turned gain down on amp and adjusted it to setting right before distortion

What I am finding is that the speaker is not thumping like I'm interpreting yours to be doing. I have a 10" sub in a bandpass box that thumps very clean, crisp, and loud. I'm a little discouraged that I'm getting the opposite effect with this new Kicker CVT 8" shallow mount in the stock enclosure.

Theonme thing I haven't don that you have is the spacer ring. I guess that would give me more space in the box but just curious if you're getting clean and crisp bass or are you getting distortion too? I was hoping that this abnormal, sized stock enclosure and this new kicker would work, well together...maybe not.

Thanks for any insight you may have.

Is it wired correctly? How much power is the amp pushing to the speaker? How many ohms is the speaker?

If I buy the Rockford Fosgate PBR300X1 amplifier, should I buy a 2 or 4 ohm subwoofer?

It depends how stable that amp is at low impedences. If it is 2 ohm stable, you can do a single 2 ohm sub, or dual 4 ohm sub. If it is 1 ohm stable, you could do a dual 2 ohm voice coil sub. You want to go with the lowest resistance sub that an amp can safely push, so that you get the most power from it.

It's a Kicker 250 2 ohm amp. Speaker is a 2 ohm spkr as well. yep, got neg going to neg and pos to pos on the amp to the speaker. I have the gain turned down pretty low and am trying to tune it slowly...I.e. increase gain slowly as bass on head unit is turned to zero. I am finding that the speak has a rattle noise...like vibration against itself or something...I.e. it may want to so more but the stock enclosure is preventing it from doing so. My fear is that my attempt to use the stock enclosure will have to be scrapped, voiding the whole reason I bought the 8 inch sub <tears>

Are you sure the speaker doesn't have a blown voice coil? Can you hear a rattle in it if you turn the volume way down?

Brand new out of box..shouldn't be blown. No rattle if turned down, only when I turn it up and try to get any bass out of it.

Just talked to Kicker. They think my stock enclosure may need some reinforcement and are recommending the 1" mdf spacer that other guys did here and maybe some dowels to glue in to reinforce the strength of the box. I guess I'll have to try it and see.

The spacer would be good. If a box is too small it create alot of pressure on the cone, the spacer will give s little more box volume.

Where are you getting the input signal from for the Sub Amp? Are you still using the stock head-unit? If you're still using a stock head-unit and some sort of line-out converter, make sure you're using the signal for the Front dash speakers (after the stock amp) to provide sound to the subwoofer amp. Also one thing to keep in mind, when using a shallow mount CVT, you wont get the same quality of sound/bass as you would from a full bodied CVR.

I've been running my Rockford Fosgate PBR300X1 (gain at 2/3rd's) with an 8" CVR at 1ohm for over a year now and i still have no rattles or distortion from the factory enclosure. The sound was acceptable with the stock head-unit, but after switching to an aftermarket head-unit (Sony) and bypassing the factory amp. Using the Sony's SW RCA output to the sound is now great and everyone always complements it. Its all-around quality sound.

A lot of people on here have unrealistic expectations when they upgrade the stock sub to another 8" sub.
