more reverse lights
I'm thinking of putting more lights in the back of the jeep so I can see better in reverse. Has anyone done this and wired directly into the wires in the taillight so you don't need a switch? (come on automatically in reverse).
Any pics of the wiring, how you hid the wires, and instructions?

You don't want to put lights below the bumper, they will get destroyed on the trail. Here's mine, not hooked up to the reverse lights as I wanted the option of turning them on at other times as well. the wires run under the rear corner panel and up into the Jeep. There is just a foam piece that can be moved so youcan get the wiring up there. Teh only drilling I had to do was on the bumper and for a ground. I also had these on my stock bumper as well.
Night shot

My lights are mounted on top of the bumper to the far left and right. They are small, but are 55w bulbs, so they put out a ton of light.

on my next free weekend, I'm adapting someone else's idea of adding a 2nd set of lights to the front bumper.
Essentially, I plan to take my spare set of fog lights, and mount them inside my rear bumper.
I will add a relay that is switched either by a dash mount switch, or the reverse lights. The rear fogs will draw power directly from the alternator though, not through the same wires as the reverse lights. (Don't want too much power running through those wires).
Again, I've got most of the parts, just need a weekend to actually try it.

What does the personalized plate say?
I don't do any heavy offroad stuff, just some mud here and there...so damage due to the trail really isn't an issue.
Next thing I need to do is figure out what wire to splice into and how. I've done a little wiring on a light bar before but i just soldered wires together instead of crimping, etc. Don't know how to.
I assume there is an ez-pz way of doing so.

Axsys posted a picture in the footwell light thread (pic below) with how he spliced into the wire.
How does this work?

Timely for me. I keep backing out of places in the dark and those stock lights certainly aren't enough to see by. I'm hoping for some nice compact LED Rev lights. Low profile. I'd really like a set mounted in the rear bumper, but I don't really like any of the rear bumpers that offer rev lights right now.
I'm really wanting the new Expedition One rear, and there is talk they may offer Rev lights as an add on down the road. Sounds like it's something that might be able to be retrofitted to any of their bumpers and not built into the bumper itself.
Watching intently for other options people post up...

To post number 8... That is a wire splice, it has two metal rails inside, one side is open all the way through so you lay the wire to be spliced into this side, the other side allows an end wire, then you close it up and crimp it down. You now have a nice clean connection.
The LED lights are readily available all over ebay and on superbrightleds and they are very cheap and do not draw much power.
The only cavit to LED is that they don't usually throw light very well they are just very very bright and VISIBLE which is why you commonly see them as indicators and brake lights or emergency lights.
Just my 2c
