more reverse lights
The one on the left, would connect an existing wire (without changing source or destination of the wire) and allow another wire to tap into the source. For my illustration, the red wire is the existing backup wire. The green wire will go to the new backup light (preferably to the relay, but that is another discussion, involving power ratings, and thin wires, etc)the one on the right, would be for using a connector. Essentially, you place a wire in the top half, and then it gets folded over for a connection. The bottom portion (see circled part) has a slice in the plastic, so that it can go over a connector.Sort of like one of theseThis can be used on the back of switches, or on the male portions of the previously mentioned connector.

I hadn't thought about this. cool!!!!
I am right there with you. Everything I have hooked up is either to a switch location kit , or in the case of my new 3rd brake light I have new connectors to plug into the factory harness when I reinstall when I get a new bumper. Everytime that you break the insulation of a wire you are making the wire more fragile, and open to the elements that will eventually corrode the wire, and create shorts..

Do we have a reference to the various connectors and their sources posted on jk-forum somewhere?
I totally agree about the use of vampire taps into wiring. Do you have the part # of the 3rd brake light connector?

I just ordered a deutsch 2 pin connecter (part number 121-8183 from Jegs), and I have the AEV 3rd brakelight. When I install my rear bumper in January/February I will just cut of the stock connector and replace it with this.
I bought an inexpensive utility lamp (55w) with stainless hardware, and mated it to a disk I fabricated to give it a platform for mounting to my stock plastic bumper. Gives it some stability that I wouldn't have if mounting a bolt to plastic. It's switched at the dash. This is my most recent project so no long term report, but so far so good.
