Default very tricky

I went to pick up my sahara and the mygig in it was completely dead. Didn't work at all. Luckily there was another one on the lot with exactly the same options and I got it instead. I have had it for over 8000 miles now and it works great. There is an upgrade that you can get off this site and it works great. Makes it to where you don't have to touch the screen to prove that you aren't going to kill yourself among other things. This update got rid of all my problems.

There are 23 or 24 in space, I believe; and you need three to get a position.

Well, three gets you 2 positions, but since 1 of those would be in space, it assumes your on the other one.

My Garmin could only find 8 MAX, my new GPS can find 12 at once, although I think the most it ever showed was 11

I want a MyGig in my Jeep; but I do feel I would worry parking it with the top down (theft)

How well is it locked in there? **glances at his tool chest**

Too bad consumer GPS is dumbed down... the military can get down to inches... or less
There are about 30 GPS satellites actually. And the military uses the same satellites as the civilian GPS units do. The satellite puts out 2 different signals (encrypted, and unencrypted). The only reason a GPS won't be as accurate is because its cheap. It takes 3 satellites to have a position, 4 for elevation. Reasons for a bad signal can be high buildings.. radio interference, etc.

Default Fixed

New Jeep 08 Rubi . Had the same problem could only recieve 1-2 sat on nav and dvd did not work properly. Tried to let "burn in" no change. Dealer was very helpfull. Removed mygig and was going to change the head . He phoned tech at crysler who said to disconect battery for about one hour and do a restart to reboot entire system. Let the mygig recalibrate. this fixed the dvd issue . I left the dealership and low and behold the gps came on board and worked great as entired clear sky. Happy now!

Default Need to get mine checked

Mine now needs to go in to the dealer - same issue as being discussed here.

PLUS I've had the radio completely off - no sound at all one night. Only to have it come back the next morning.

PLUS I've had an intermittent problem with the left stereo channel occasionally dropping sound for 3-5 seconds.

The problem is that everything has seemed to be intermittent. If it would only do one of those things and KEEP doing it, it would be easy to diagnose and fix...

With your left channel dropping for 3-5 seconds, it it possible that you have your navigation guidance prompts turned down too low, so it's just cutting the left channel to prompt you with an inaudible Mary Alice?

Question

Any update on the intermittant GPS reception bug? I'm having this problem occasionally. Seems to happen when the jeep is cold (cold for AZ anyway). When busted, I'll get 0 or maybe 1 or 2 satellites. Normally get 5-9 or so. Have wiggled the connections at the GPS antenna and back of the MyGig without effect. Works most of the time, so I probably won't be able to convince the dealer that it's flaky.

It is kind of amazing how the compass and odometer data keeps the mapping on track for quite a while after the GPS receiver conks out.

Yeah, iam bringin mine in this afternoon. So, we'll see what they say, I'll keep ya posted. It is kind of annoying to have it working sometimes, then other times show me driving in the Long Island Sound...

Well, As I anticipated, they did basically nothing. they "Calibrated my screen" I really don't think they have any clue what they are doing. I have just about had it with this service center. I am debating right now, whether to either go to another service center (The one I used to go to with my Liberty) or give these guys one last shot. It is obvious to me though that the service center I have been using has no clue what they are doing, as they don't even know they name of the unit as either "RER" or "MyGIG"... Real Quality...

i just picked up my rubi 08, and the nav says its starting up with a white screen, but never does, just the white screen, does the thing need activated to work? everything else works fine, just no nav? ok last nite i was playing with it a lil and found out i can not save songs or input anything like addresses, seem like i can't do anything that has to do with the hard drive, so i pulled up the system info screen where the serial number is and it said, "error tab not found" anyone know whats going on here? does it just need the software reinstalled? or just a whole new head unit?
